There are some good free products but when it comes to the foundation for your setup, like a AV, spend the few dollars to get a good one. Then add all the freebies you want. Kind of like I did.

As far as deciding what to use, you couldn't have come to a better place to form a leak-proof (let's hope) security defense against the ills of disrupting what i like to call junkware, better known as malware, and for some folks, nightmares
