How to stop "avast! On-Access Scanner Messages?"

I've had Avast on my XP computers for about 2 1/2 years, and really loved it!

I just got a new HP laptop with preinstalled Vista Home Premium, and as part of my regular setup, I removed McAfee and downloaded Avast, got it registered, and set up the first Avast full scan. When the first scan started, something that I had never seen before started happening. In the lower right corner of my screen, continuous message bars started popping up, with a blue banner on top, entitled "avast! On-Access Scanner Message" with various different file location addresses in my different drives and wherever I am surfing. I thought that these would stop after Avast finished the first complete scan, which took about 5 hours, but the message bars continue to pop up, two days later. I have looked at every different possibility that I could see to turn them off, but short of turning Avast off, I could not find any way to do it. Can anyone tell me how to deactivate these irritating pop-up "On-Access Message Scanner" bars? THEY ARE DRIVING ME NUTS!! Any ideas will be most appreciated, thanks.

 

Uncheck the option 'Show detailed information...' into the Standard Shield settings, on the Advanced tab*. (you also have that option in the Web Shield settings)

* Double click on the Avast ball -> Standard Shield -> Customize -> Advanced tab

maybe not surfing on websites that are likely to get you infected?
clear the logs and be more careful from now on.
what malware is the on demand sscanner find and did it remove it all?
may as well download superantispyware from my signiture and make sure your pc is malware free.

No, that was not it, since there was never any malware on my computer. I don't regularly surf on sites that cause me to get infected. I pick up malware about once every six to twelve months generally, and Avast catches it every time. Other than that I run Ad Aware and Spybot - Search & Destroy about once per week to pick up spyware and such, and other than that, I have no problems. See above for the easy fix from Bluesman. I think that this was just a new feature from Avast that I just did not know about. Thanks again Bluesman!

 

Dont depend on those 2 AS scanners, they havent been near good for years

did you read the messages? such as file name and location?
i agree with the poster above spybot and adware are old hat.
for antispyware scanners try superantispyware and mbam

 

The option to have such notifications displayed as been there for a long time.
I suspect the checkbox to display them might have been unintentionally ticked.
The messages were nothing of concern, just a display of what the on access scanners were doing.

I do agree that MBAM and Superantispyware are worth downloading and running from time to time.
AdAware isn't on my machine, and possibly never will be again. The bite from the 2007 version install is still inflamed.
Spybot, your choice. Nothing wrong with it. Some handy features. Just not as effective with some types of malware as the others.
