As noted in my sig below I currently have Mamutu but this deal has my mouth watering. Is A-squared 4 now a full blown AV and AntiMalware or is it good to use as a supplement to my Avira Premium. I noticed it has the Ikarus engine...o_O :D

    Thanks for your reply.

However in your FAO section it suggests to check all is working it suggests using the EICAR file. I went to the site (Linked via your FAO) and double clicked on all the files and just saw a DOS screen appear on my computer with no alert. However when I manually scan the EICAR file it detects this. BTW I clicked on the EICAR file with out sanboxie, so I am sure for some reason the files are not being scanned on exuction by Ikurus, even though its all ticked in the security centre. Any more ideas greatly recieved. i do have a Support ticket open and have written on your website forum as well.

    Best wishes

Does A Squared play nice with Norton Internet Security 2009?

The special pricing is only for 1 year licenses. Not for updates.

License period begins with purchase date.

I just got a reply from Tony in the A-Squared forum. He said he runs the Norton Security Suite 2009 with this and no problems at all...:thumb: I'll be running it along with good ole Avira...

I am a bit confused - normally you would not run two AV in real-time as this may cause problems. Why is A-squared different and can it be run with all other AV in realtime?

I would have bought this in a snap if the license was from date of first install since I already have a license which isn't due to expire until August 2009. Ah well!! :'(

A-Squared was originally using its own scan engine, designed to work alongside AVs. Since V4, it has used its own engine with the Ikarus engine. Ikarus is a full AV / AM - and is unbeatable in its detection of malware - but does have some FPs. The A2 and Ikarus engines are implemented in such a way that there should be no conflicts with AVs. The real time Ikarus engine is implemented as on execution only. A full system scan will scan all files - including non executibles.

You could use A2 as your only protection - but I wouldnt. Dont get me wrong, it has better detection than all other AV / AM scanners out there, but you still need something for on access real time and mail scanning etc.

I've downloaded this and installed it and I only want to use the IDS (Mamutu) part. Where do I go to disable the real time AM,what do I check or uncheck. Same for the Ids to make sure it is enabled properly. I realise it sounds sort of dumb but an answer would be appreciated.

To Disable Realtime-AM, click disable link next to On-Execution Scan

Yep, it is also a great AV which checks at execution.

A friend of mine has it running as its primary defense (web protection disabled except for cookies) together with Avira free (with check at writes only, not execute or read).

He argues that Avira will filter out all known criminals when downloading files, A2 will catch them when they execute (assisted by the Mamutu build in IDS).

He does not seem to have issues running them together on a Vista 32bits box

    Cheers

Despite how comprehensive A-Squared AM is,personally I've never experienced any issues at all running it alongside a wide array of security apps.C.I.S.,Avira,Defensewall,Sandboxie,Comodo BOclean,Threatfire all lived happily alongside it at various times.

Is the Ikarus engine only used on demand only

I have it running along with DefenseWall and Avira Premium with no issues at all. Not sure how much added protection it gives but it doesn't slow things down and the price is right?

The Ikarus engine is combined with the a-squared engine on a very low level. That means on every point, where the scan engine is used, it uses both.

    - Disk Scanner.
    - Guard that checks every program when it is started.

You want to ruin us, don't you? ;)

The $5 offer is a special anniversary promo - time limited for sure. Please understand that we can't make this the regular pricing.

No one wants that. But 1-3 months for activate the license would have been even more great.

I installed this morning and it disabled my NIS 2009, that's what I assume cause my icon disappeared from the task bar and when I went to programs to restart, it wouldn't restart. After uninstalling A2 and upon restart my NIS 2009 icon was back in the task bar. Anyone else have this problem?

    of course not,

but regardless of whatever price it may be, (which is your choice, not the customers), licences should be able to activate when the customers wants to use it.
