Norton Game Edition 2009 vs. Antivirus 2009

NIS 2009 is already so lite. I would not spend anything to upgrade to the gamer edition.

The point is it is probably a marketing scam. They are probably going to charge more, considering you can get the regular version free after rebates, for not much difference in performance. The regular version uses about 9-12 meg. Let say the gaming version uses 6meg. On a gaming PC with 2-4gb, 5meg is nothing.

 

The gamer's edition has the same price as the regular version.

I'm not really convinced by these gaming editions because most serious gamers have at least 2GB of Ram installed, so any gains will be minimal at best and almost certainly unnoticeable. If Norton gaming edition can also suppress alerts while gaming? and the difference in price is small then it's probably worthwhile.

 

nis2009 has the option to surpress alerts when full screen programs are active. the gaming edition should be scrapped.....

ROFL ROFL ROFL ...

Such a marketing strategy I have never seen before . What an AV will be and what a gamer's PC will it be that will froze as soon as the AV starts a simple scan ...

 

I didn't realise that, so it looks like the Gaming edition is complete marketing gimmick.

If the gamer's edition can turn off updating during full screen activity and anything else which can impact on a limited bandwidth connection, while the regular edition can't, that's a big win for anyone concerned about latency i.e. gamers.

 

Agreed. I'd seriously consider it as I'm fed up of pop ups during games. It's seems so obvious to have something switchable to counter this.

 

I also think that these are just the marketing gimmicks. The underlying definition files are really same for these apparently different security software products.

 

One more question: Can the Norton GE 2009 GUI theme, be reverted to the original Norton AV 2009 theme?

 

Yes It can , it has all themes plus the game edition theme
