Has anyone tried NAV 2009 with Outpost Firewall 2009 ?

... Are there any issues with this combination ? Does anything need to be disabled between the 2 pgms ,for them to behave together ?

Don't worry TrojanHunter, AntiBot IS included in both NIS and NAV 2009.

I think the new version is awesome. I kinda liked the 2008 version as well, but the 2009 has improved a lot compared to 2008 and resources. At least on my computer. I have avoided Norton since it used a lot of resources, but now I have it installed on my laptop and it's running great.

Been using NIS2009 since it was released, bought it soon after and have no intention of changing anytime soon. Still do on demand scans with other products occasionally but all in all I'm very pleased with NIS2009.

    Hi,

I have installed NIS 2009 on my business machine which is connected to internet almost 18 hours a day. It is working great and got my confidence too.

Even I have license of KIS, F-Secure too.

But I don't want to change it, NIS is excellent only. Even it is not giving any kind of pop too.

My brother is not so techincal person, I have installed and he is very happy to use NIS, which is not showing POPups too.

So King is back and will lead for years. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

    Never heard of spent convictions?

I don't like this analogy anyway. A corporation is entirely different to an individual. A corporation will have different employees, managers and chief execs over the years and all will be different and have different abilities.

Just judge it on it's performance now seems to me to make sense.

Then you clearly have personal issues that go beyond and therefore have no relevance to NAV 2009.

I disagree here completely, and a good example would be this:

Let's say I am a software vendor. I was known to author and distribute spyware (or to be in bed with companies that did these activities) in the past, but have since "cleaned up" my act. I now offer security software that is a decent and seems to do its job pretty well.

You would trust this as well?

BTW - a situation similar to the example above really happened - the product is Spyware Terminator and the company is Crawler. I don't think Norton products have gone THAT bad.

Depends on if you had a good reputation before you started distributing spyware. Then people are tend to see it as "just a mistake".

While I agree the 2009 products are improved from the trial I used, but I don't really see how Norton is that much lighter on resources and faster than some of it's competitors. I have Kaspersky Anti-virus 2009 installed and it never feels like a hog, it's memory footprint is also acceptable.

Hearing the many positive reviews about NAV 2009 intrigued me enough to try it. I am very impressed--impressed enough to buy it. I am a new customer and I agree that this version will gain quite a few new customers. I understand completely those who have used NAV and have been burned in some way not wanting to return. This has happened to me with another security company (will not mention due to relevance) from which I still vow never to use any of their products even if most experts agree that it is the best out there.

I think it's fair to say I have personal issues. I might correct you and refer to them instead as business issues, but we'll go with your conclusion, okay?

But my issues do not go beyond the scope and relevance of this thread, which asks the question, "is it time to re-evaluate Norton? Would YOU trust it?". The OP delved into the realm of past experience with this company, and predicated his question at least partially on whether we felt it was time to move on. Therein lies the relevance, my friend. The question involves past experience and a company and a software. You might choose to separate NAV 2009 from the past and from the company, but from where I stand, it's all one big dynamic.

It makes no difference to me if you love NAV 2009. If you are happy and it performs well, I am sincerely glad for you. I am on no Symantec-bashing crusade here. But the thread topic resonated with me, and I wanted to share my experiences.

If we hear one thing in this world, it's the old adage that history repeats itself. If you decide to ignore the past and go forth with NAV 2009, you are definitely going against what the record clearly shows. If NAV 2009 is supported by tons of anecdotal evidence, and even some laboratory evidence, so be it. It's ONE YEAR. I spent 8+ years sorting out the Symantec hassles.

Suffice it to say my issues with the company and the software have no relevance to NAV 2009 as far as you're concerned, but as far as I'm concerned, they have all the relevance in the world.

    :)

    Ok, ok people!

I decided to take advantage of the 90 trial kindly posted by someone on the 1st page of this thread. The last time I had a Norton product on my system I think it was called 2005!

This version (anti virus 2009) is light years ahead of that. Firstly it's ultra light. I've been a NOD licence holder for three years and impressed with it's lightness. I perceive absolutely no difference with Norton on my machine. It's feature packed but none of it is superfluous. It scans really quickly and I'm just, well, impressed. So impressed I'm seriously thinking of buying this. Nothing has come close to NOD for me for three years so Norton has done a fine job with it's latest release.

Wow, it must be pretty good, I'm starting to lose count of how many of these good reports there have been now... I am tempted to try it myself...

Norton has been traditionally known as a resource hogger, but New Norton 360 is an exception to that tag.

NAV/NIS 2009 is even lighter than Norton 360.

I would caution that the "king" is a bit overblown. System requirements on the box are 300mhz or > processor. I have a spare 750mhz intel notebook. NIS 2009 runs like a slug. It takes about 2- 2 1/2 hours to run a scan where it took 1/2 that time on KIS 09 or avira free. Scan times are the same as A2 anti-malware paid.

NIS 2009 consumes about 20megs more memory than the combo of:

avira free/online armor paid/sas paid (realtime).

What you've got here is the proverbial case of a 10mpg guzzler now getting 18mpg and everyone is raving about how fuel efficient it is.

Lastly, the last time I turned on the notebook and used it, it was up & running for a while and NIS 2009 showed that the last update was 9 hours ago. No way to fine tune updates like in KIS 09 and the firewall is really lacking based on tests.

It's clearly an improvement over the old Norton. The 80# gorilla is now a 40# gorilla. I don't get how anyone can say this is better than Kaspersky's or Avira's or other's products at present. And Norton sure didn't have any problems taking your money for the last 10 years and having people looking all over the net for ways to uninstall the beast without it leaving dead dll's and files all over their hard drive. This program, although improved is not the panacea it's being made out to be.

But it's learning from the likes of Avira, Kaspersky, Eset and others.

On the PCs I have loaded NIS 09, it only takes 7-14meg of ram.

The anti virus is using a shade over 6meg on my machine. NOD never came close.
