About the only frequent false positives (per Jotti's and Virus total) that I get with Avira Anti-Vir are HEUR/HTML.Malware [heuristic),and this is with Guard
    set to high heuristic's.
If you complain on Avira Forum they, quite rightly point out, that is the reason it is set medium as default.
It even says that on instal.
That seems a pretty fair trade off.

i prefer heur on high, first of all because i can tell if an app is a FP and i just exclude it, even if by setting it to high it catches even 1 real malware, then its worth it, as long as you know what your doing and don't delete something you need.

I keep the webscanner on high but the others on Medium.

For some reason, many of the FP's I get with Avira are Signature related, rather than heuristic/ Other than some FP's no issues with Avira here.

Very interesting. Kaspersky (corperate version) is used where I work and I hear it's a pain to manage. Perhaps we might try Avira in the future. :)

Avira "bad things" list based on av-comparatives and my (limited) knowledge of the product:

    1. Poor performance when scanning All File Types using High heuristic settings.
    2. Scheduled Updates default to time based, no event based tasks such as "update on boot".

It's clearly one of the best AVs around though, and more importantly, its been CONSISTENTLY one of the best AVs around. If it weren't for the fact that performance is such a factor for me, I'd likely be with Avira and not ESET.

hmm as long as ur computer is half decent then even on high u shouldnt notice any slowdowns, been using it on high for everything, not slow downs on browsing or anything really.

    av-comparatives disagree

Edit: Link to AV-Comparatives only, not the result tables - Ron.

Here's a more detailed AV and security suite performance test from Passmark (direct download of .pdf file). This was posted earlier in another thread and even though it appears it was done for Norton, it's more complete than the AV-comparatives version.

Unfortunately, neither contains benchmarks for browser impact.

wow that test REALLY was made for norton, for IS and AV results it wasnt that bad, but when i saw norton 360 as lightest total security app, i almost shat a brick, and onecare comign 2nd also blew my mind... its pretty BS

some of the test is BS, but there is some useful info as well.

Agreed and nothing is perfect, but good enough.
