Yep. Because my computer has been acting a lot screwy lately. Which is why I have been testing out so many different antivirus programs.

Glad you found something that worked! I like Norton a lot myself.

Did you try Super Antispyware or Malwarebytes, or did they also miss the trojans?

    Super Antispyware didn't find it.

Malwarebytes is great though because it caught the Trojan.DNSChanger.

Thanks for the info. I always wonder if all these scanners I use are any good, or just cookie cleaners. LOL

I too switched to Norton 2009. But only for my personal laptop, I am quite cautious about Symantec. But they really a have made a great product.

But I am wary, I can't seem to trust Symantec yet completely. Esp, when I read stuff like this:

I'm so happy. I found that I could install and run the 90 day trial of Norton Internet Security 2009. :D

    Using it now. :thumb:

In the past I really liked Norton. I bought a license every year and upgraded with joy (well.. ;)). But since 2004, 2005, etc. it got worse and worse every new version they introduced.

That's why I also really like the new Norton 2009. It used to be a quality product but it seemed they got a bit lazy, like 'everybody still buys our product no matter what'. I don't say that's what they thought but that's what it looked like.

I think they made the right decision :).

The problem is, if they 'lured' people in, then slowly eroded away the quality of their product, why wouldn't it happen again?

What's to say Norton 2009 is their crowning achievement, 2010 is decent, 2011 sucks the fat one (eg. starts to become difficult to remove, hogs resources etc).

Personally I'd try it again, but I would, without doubt, trial each new version released from now on before purchasing it.

Well, that's the reason I still don't use it. I'm affraid it will get worse again. But since that can happen with any program, we'll see :).

    That's very true EC.

Without my 'crystal ball', I'm hoping everything I use gets better. But that's all we can do, 'hope'. ;)

I always use to be a user of Both Mcafee and Norton alternating between the two, but the Bloat just become unbearable. The last good Mcafee product I used was Anti-virus version 7, but then on they introduced the bloated security centre, which drained resources and the Good Mcafee of old was dead. Mcafee Internet security 2006, the last I tested was absolutely awful. The Same story with Norton products really, taking a nose dive in quality and becoming bloatware. I really resent the fact Mcafee, a security vendor, bombard their users with pop up advertisment trying to sell other products, which shouldn't happen . I've known countless persons who had been using Norton or Mcafee, but their machines became infected with many kinds of malware because of the poor detection rates, those people believing that such a big vendor was protecting their machines.

I remember it was not long ago computer shops were trying to push Norton products especially. I now see others vendors starting to get a look in on the market, threatening the market share of companies like Norton. A chain in the UK called PCworld is know trying to push sales of Kaspersky. Norton realise now they just cannot get away with inferior bloated products, just because of their Big vendor name and that's why I believe their 2009 products are now credible.

I tried Norton Internet security 2009 and I must say it's improved from the old days. The software was very light, no slowdowns on start-up and scanning speeds were swift. I even like the fact Norton has a feature to start-up first when booting into windows to improve security. I liked Norton IS2009, but I'm not sure I would move from Kaspersky.

Yep, just make sure you get your rebate(s)... I've had some trouble with them in recent times myself.

I hope this is considered to be on topic. (if not then I apologize). But I can't get the Norton Toolbar 3.0 to work in Firefox version 3.0.4

(I'm using Norton Internet Security 2009)

Does anybody know a fix for this?

Kaspersky, NOD and PC Tool all say something is clean, let alone if all six of those say so, and something else says that the file is high-risk? The odds are heavily in favor of it being a false positive. You're taking the word of one reputable product against six, two of which have equal or better reputations in the AV world, and one of which has a much much higher rating in the Anti-Spyware world.

True, but by the same logic, what's to say that Kaspersky or NOD won't do the same?

Personally, I re-evaluate everyone each year when their new product comes out, and try to judge them based on their current product only.

    Well. I had to.

As I said before my computer was acting totally screwy. Why else in the world would I try so many different antivirus programs?

Now that NIS 2009 found and deleted those Trojans, my computer is acting a lot better.

    ***********
I had no trouble moving away from them considering their support team at their message forum totally blew me off when I had a problem.

When I was infected with the Trojan.DNSChanger they told me to post a Combofix log. So I did and then they totally and completely ignored me after that. I didn't hear word one from any of them.

Totally and completely rude. Screw that crap.

At least they could have had the courtesy to say something like,"Sorry. But we don't know what to do to help you with your Trojan.DNSChanger problem.

    But no. Nothing.

Personally I would evaluate a product on it's current abilities. How it was 4 years ago is irrelevant to the here and now.

And I'm wondering how many of those 7 total AVs are running on his computer right now? Were any of them overlapping, i.e. installed at the same time? How does he know that the "high risk trojans" that NAV found were even on his pc when he scanned with any of the other six previous products? How much time elapsed from using one to using the last? An awful lot of variables enter into a statement like, "I gotta tell you how wonderful the Norton AntiVirus 2009 is. I just completed a full system scan and it found a bunch of high risk Trojans that other antivirus programs missed.". In fact, with AVs like Kaspersky, NOD 32, Avast, and Avira, I have to doubt that they ALL missed "a bunch of high risk Trojans" that NAV subsequently found. It just doesn't make sense.

The ONLY one that is running on my machine right now is NIS 2009.

Come on man. I'm not that stupid.

I have ten years of computer experience.

I totally un-installed ALL of the other antivirus programs from my machine.

I respect that you would evaluate a product on its current abilities, but "how it was 4 years ago" is indeed relevant to the here and now in that the same vendor is still involved, and what that company was once capable of doing can easily be repeated again. My biggest gripes with Symantec involved both product performance and company performance. They go together, and I believe firmly that past company performance can be relevant to the here and now. Granted, they may have altered their customer relations department and tech support division, but I will never know that first hand because I won't give them another chance. I was a subscriber for 8+ years. They had their crack at me, and they failed. ;)
