    Hi,

Testing the Create rescue CD feature and have found it not working.

First attempt reported that it was unable to find the Windows AIK and prompted me for a path so I downloaded and installed (922MB!)

Now the the AIK is installed I am no longer prompted for it's location but instead am given an error that it cannot be found o_O!

Thanks all for the assistance - upgraded Windows AIK to 6.0.6001.18000 using the link provided and all is now working as expected.

Nice feature by the way for those without other tools to use NOD32 for system checking from a boot disk.

    Cheers :)

I wonder if ESET should add this to the installer as an additional feature? "Tick this if you wants to install these windows tools (Note: They are required to create ESET backup CD's)" Or something like that? :p

Or a better idea is just add a link under "AIK tools required" to the download page then you don't bloat up the installer. Just a little something so we don't actually have to google it.

I'd honestly prefer a regularly updated ISO rescue CD download, or rewriting this feature to not require people to install such obnoxious cruft. Even the Nero bloatware has yet to exceed 1GB download. :thumbd:

Eset should include SysRescue on the Retail CD
so you can boot the CD in SysRescue mode on startup or install software in windows :)

Windows AIK is about a 1GB download - a little bit big to include as part of the ~20MB ESET installer IMHO

My present understanding is that the created rescue disc should be considered platform specific. I believe that part of the reason for working this way is that it ensures the required drivers for your hardware are loaded. While this doesn't replace UBCD or BartPE for my purposes, some other tools can't access my RAID by default but ESET SysRescue had no problem after using that PC to create the image and is far simpler a process for the not-so-technically minded.

    Cheers :)

    Hello,

Please keep in mind that the Windows Automated Installation Kit is technology that is owned by Microsoft, not ESET, and that it provides an actual preinstallation environment-type operating system.

In the past, Microsoft has been very selective about who distributes tools to create preinstallation environments.

Yeah, noted. The problem is that the whole thing is horrible bloatware... Honestly I'd prefer a linux-based CD to this. (Can work pretty nicely, including on-the-fly definitions update, like Dr. Web latest CD does, plus you could fit it about 20+ times into the 1GB size as it is now.)

Yes, but a link to the website under the error wouldn't hurt anyone.

true, if someone want SysRescue, pm me, i got a iso for you
if you dont want to download 1GB with WinPE tools
the size of the SysRescue ISO made by Eset NOD32 4.0.68 is 274MB
thats kinda big, what about compressing it so it fits a Mini CDR/Pocket CD that is 180MB

Right, ISO has 274MB size, but only if you select in advanced settings that your target computer has RAM less than 512MB or if you run SysRescue Wizard first time on PC with less than 512MB RAM (then this option is selected by default). Otherwise if you use "512MB or more" option (or run Wizard first time on PC with min. 512MB RAM), then ISO size is 226MB, what I think is more frequent case.

    Hello,

The size of a SysRescue disc may vary based on several factors, including what device drivers are present in your installation of Microsoft Windows.

That's strange. I tried your configuration Vista SP1 64bit and still I get 227MB ISO file, if I choose "more than 512MB RAM" in advanced settings.

Do you have any external drivers in Advanced Setting?

When you boot ISO image, do you see white progress bar with text "Windows is loading files..." above it. If so, then you have RAM disk CD version (means "more than 512MB" RAM). Then the image should have around 227MB, if you didn't specify any external drivers in advanced setting.

can eset add a option to make it fit Mini CDs?
would be nice, many old systems dont support boot from USB, and a Mini CD is more handy for pocket

I think this is not possible. Microsoft developed this technology for 3 possible devices: CD-ROM, USB, HDD.

    See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc748899.aspx

If you have a look at original Microsoft's image file of bootable WinPE in path C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\PETools\x86\ (if you use as root folder for AIK: C:\Program Files\Windows AIK), then you can see that winpe.wim file (windows image file) is 174MB. This image file doesn't contain ESET Smart Security. Winpe.wim file is then included in ISO file. If ESS is added to winpe.wim, it can not be below 180 MB.
