One change in the update is listed as

"Fixed automatic consolidation being available for full backups"

Can anyone tell me what this means. Can one now auto-maintain a series of Full backups?

Good news that known issues are listed as well as "fixes". That's a step inthe right direction, afaic. :)

Found 9646 when I went to register my (purchased this morning) TI 2009. What is the best procedure to use to install an update? Uninstall and then install the updated version, install on top of previous version, or what? I had a lot of trouble with TI 9 recently so upgraded and don't want to mess it up. Hope I'm not intruding here but didn't want to start a new thread; my flame retardant suite is at the cleaners. :)

Best make a backup of your dirve -- then you can always put things back as they were if you need to.

Updates can usually go over an existing install of the same version without problems, Version updates often work okay going on top also but it's best to uninstall old version before installing new one.

Where can I view the "Fix List" ? This is important to me as I do not want to waste time downloading and trialling V2009 sight unseen.

    Changes:
    • Added a Network Device Access Storage connection wizard to the media - (NDAS is a hardware device interface that directly connects to Hard Disk Drives - making these disks accessible on the network, as though they were connected to a file server)
    • Fixed backup to DVD from the media
    • Fixed VSS (Vista Shadow Copy Service) data not being preserved after Vista restore
    • Fixed backup sort order
    • Fixed validation not working when backing up to DVD when done from media
    • Fixed unnamed backups on the Acronis Secure Zone when done from media
    • Fixed incorrect search results after incremental backup
    • Fixed e-mail notification settings not being saved after editing a task
    • Fixed timer incorrectly showing time remaining value after being minimized
    • Fixed automatic consolidation being available for full backups
    • Fixed T&D progress during the apply operation
    • Backup Policies (Rotations) (back by popular demand from Acronis True Image 11, Rotations makes it possible to customize archive chains and automatically consolidate or delete outdated slices! This set and forget feature expands on the functionality of its ATIH 11 predecessor by adding the ability to automatically consolidate slices.)
    • Revamped Vista style Clone Disk Wizard (now cloning your disk is even easier with the newly refurbished Clone Disk Wizard - all that's needed is a couple of clicks!)
    • Revamped Vista style Add Disk Wizard (also revamped is the Add Disk Wizard. Adding a new disk has never been easier.)
    • Support for 23 new applications for application settings backup (see Release Notes)
    • Archive Ratings (now you can rate your favorite archives on a five star scale!)

There is quite an impressive list of changes/fixes associated with build 9646. I also notice that in addition to the new executible file the user guide has changed and the BartPE and Safe Media plug-in have has been updated. I also notice that the serial number is now displayed in the ALT + Help -> about screen. A welcome change.

I have only one disappointing issue at this point. Creating an image in Windows no longer excludes certain file extensions by default. Very nice. If however you boot using the Rescue Media CD and manually create a scheduled task the box is still checked to exclude certain file types as in the previous build. This was not expected and certainly will cause future problems. The Recovery Manager folder had to be modified as the serial number was added and build 9646 is displayed correctly. I’m surprised that they didn’t catch this.

In that the BartPE and Safe Media plug-in has been updated I uninstalled the entry “Media Add-ons for Acronis True Image 2009” using Add or Remove Programs. I then uninstalled Acronis True Image Home build 9615. Installing build 9646 and the new file “TrueImage2009addons_s_en.msi” for the BartPE and Safe version worked well.

Limited experience with the new build but so far everything looks OK. I created a full image without issues but so far have not validated it.

Come on postbyte, you know full well we don't count as far as Acronis are concerned - we will probably get the update just before TI 2010 is released :argh:

Wow - has anybody tested this yet? Quite an accomplishment if true.

It seems that Acronis is trying really hard to make TI 2009 work properly. Together with the bug fix that now allows Linux ext2/ext3 partitions to be restored properly, they have fixed two longstanding issues that have been around since Version 9 or before. It may be time for this TI 10 fan to upgrade.

Agreed, that's what tempted me to finally upgrade from v10 myself, nice to see all those fixes.

Oh, and I contacted LIVE support on the Acronis website and they immediately gave me build 9646 download link :)

I reported this problem below to Acronis and was assured it would be fixed in the next release. Well I install the new release and it was not fixed.

Issue: If you setup a default password in your options and then create a scheduled backup all is good. The password is automatically inserted in the backup task for you. If you then edit the task the password is changed again by True Image, but not to the password you know. You are now no longer able to access the backup. The password is different then your options and / or is corrupted. This is a serious flaw; you could have one or more backups that you edit other parameters and are unaware that the password has been changed. Next time you need these backup archives they will not be available to you because you won't know / have the password.

PS: The file exclusions are still being duplicated over and over every time you edit the scheduled task.

They seem to have spent a lot of time fixing backups to DVD's that most people don’t use and have ignored the base code. I'm getting frustrated that they aren't focused on the things used by most!

THis build still has the bug relating to restoring one of its backups but Office 2007 trys to re-install itself.

    My Sys
    Vista x64 SP1
    Office 07

Gone back to v11 as its faster and reliable.

Does anyone know whether startup times have improved?

Installing an update when the current version sort of works .. I am becoming pretty paranoid when it comes to updates ;)

    Opera 9 9,62
    PowerDVD 7 8
    Skype 3,2 3,8
    uTorrent 1,6 1,8,1
    Windows Live Messenger 8 8,5,1302,10
    WinRAR 3 3,8
    WinZIP 11 11,2
    Yahoo! Messenger 8 9
    Zone Alarm 6,5 8
    Thunderbird 1,5 2
    QIP infium 9018
    Quicktime 7.55.90.70
    WinAmp 5.5.4. build 2165
    Picasa 2.7, 3.0

    Fixed issues

Backup to DVD from the bootable media now works correctly
Windows Restore Points are now accessible after system recovery from the backup archive
Backup sort order within the program interface is corrected
Validation procedure is now working when backing up to DVD using Acronis Bootable Media
Fixed unnamed backups on Acronis Secure Zone when done from Acronis Bootable Media
Search results are now displayed correctly after incremental backup
E-mail notification settings are now saved correctly after editing a task
Estimated backup time values are now calculated correctly after minimizing the progress window.

Known issues and limitations of the version:

Acronis True Image Home is unable to search:
Archives in ZIP and TIB format on removable media
Archives in ZIP format using GDS and WDS
Archive to various places (AVP) does not work with FTP Server and ASZ.
Acronis True Image Home doesn’t support backing up in zip compressed format to CD/DVD.
During writing backup to CD\DVD, the progress bar hangs. Please note that this limitation does not have any barring on successful completion of the backup.
Acronis True Image Home does not support GUID Partition Table (GPT) and Dynamic Disks. A dynamic disk is a Microsoft feature that virtually turns a Hard Disk Drive into a Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (RAID) device. Please note that work with regular RAID is supported.
Unable to edit tasks created with ATIH 11 after upgrade to ATIH 2009 - also, the previously created schedule is lost. Tasks created before ATIH 11 are not ported to ATIH 2009.
When updating from ATIH 11 with activated Acronis True Image Startup Recovery Manager (ASRM) to ATIH 2009, by default, the ASRM becomes available in trial mode – which means that the user cannot perform backups, only restore. The workaround is to re-activate ASRM from the ATIH 2009 console by going to Tools->Activate Startup Recovery Manager->Deactivate and then Tools->Activate Startup Recovery Manager->Activate
Safe media does not support restoring individual files from a disk image backup – only the whole disk.

I'll bite. Why is this useful? It's not like they are various pictures of vacation scenery.

5 stars - archive validates in both Windows and Linux environments consistently
4 stars - archive validates in both environments most of the time
3 stars - archive validates in one or the other environment consistently
2 stars - archive validates inconsistently in both environments
1 star - ask why you still have it
