Gutmann Schmukmann

I have been using CyberScrub 5 and I've even put up with pain of electing Gutmann (35 passes) secure delete. Recently I ran a couple recovery programs in order to congradulate myself on having a "clean' HDD.

Well...You'd be surprised what the cat brought home. Cyberscrub is B/S. So many files. Yiiiiiiiiiiiii.

So now I'm gonna believe what I read b4. The only safe way to erase data is to insert the HDD into the local river, hard-wired to a brick.

 

Try Dban instead if you want to a complete harddrive erased from all content. It`s very effective

You know, the Guttman Wipe is not necessary either. a simple random data pass will eliminate it.

If you did a 35 pass wipe and still recovered files, then the program never wiped the disk. And I'd still find that hard to believe. How long did it take to wipe the disk? Also did you do a full data area, or just the 'filesystem'?

 

Agreed - I find this extremely odd. I have used Cyber Scrub for years and it works fine, either on individual files or a complete disk.

I confirm the wipe afterwards by running Recover My Files, and 9 times out of 10 all it picks up are the wipe temp files generated by Cyber Scrub.
