University discounts offered on any major product?

Way back when, I picked up a Nod32 license for pretty cheap, courtesy of student standing.

That offer through that particular reseller no longer exists.

That said, are there any resellers or companies themselves offering competitive pricing on any of the big suites going (Avira's, ESS, etc.) for university students/staff?

But it doesn't mean it doesn't exist . There is still a student discount available for ESET products . Just contact ESET or another reseller and ask for more information.

 

They don't. Another one of the resellers told me that ESET is no longer offering educational/personal use discounts.

 

I am ESET reseller and although I haven't sold a single student license during my whole partnership with ESET Bulgaria , I have always been aware of such licenses .

If you are from the USA , I guess the situation might be different but I really doubt . Aryeh Goretsky (agoretsky) from ESET LLC can confirm or deny , I think - you can PM him.

 

Most uni's offer free AV to students and staff (it's generally Sophos).

Check with your ITS to see if they offer such a thing

Usually, the ones offered by universities are either Symantec, McAfee, or Sophos--I can attest to the fact that Symantec and McAfee causes a noticeable slowdown to your system. Haven't used Sophos, so I can't speak for it.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the versions they provide are the corporate version, not the consumer.

 

Kaspersky does a 50% discount to educational establishments, but I am not quite sure about individual student licensing, best thing to do is contact your country office for more info, also do check with your IT dept because unis do in most cases offer free antivirus for their students.

 

If students carry out on-line banking, some Banks offer AV software for free.

For example I am using KIS 2009 through my bank; a free one-year license.

 

Sophos is pretty good actually. It's using about 30MB of RAM at the moment and 0% CPU.

Sophos only make corporate products so it makes no difference in their case.
