...& Tony...Thanks for the friendly reply to an ignorant, lol.
Yes, I may have misunderstood. Apologies...

Will see what will be on the coming tuesday. :)

P.S. I'm not talking out of greed....but I believe in my heart that people should be protected ONLINE...and this protection shouldn't cost a dime. Our Internet providers cost enough, yes? So, all these extras we have to pitch in not only CAN overwhelm our computer but also the wallet of the common man.
Fresh out of the box, our "window to the world" is vulnerable from the start, until we add and add - FREE or payed security.

And of course, our home we live in is our own responsibilty, keeping INTRUDERS OUT. ....
There's only a great lake's difference between those two .....or am I dreaming?

I have run ZA products for a number of years and they typically simply stop updating when the subscription expires. Whatever protection you had when they expired is essentially frozen at that point in time. So everything works, just no more updates without a subscription renewal. They also have started reminding about the impending expiration at about a month or less remaining.

JohnDoe...in other words...after 1 year of protection bliss for free, it's either pay or else?

Yep, pretty much how any other subscription works, or trial, or whatnot.

it's a shame they don't support 64bit vista. Damn shame. Especially when more and more new systems on the store shelves and mail order are coming with/option of 64bit. Especially laptops.

Or you could miss Tuesday and pay for the year.

Really not any different than any other subscription. Try not paying your cable bill. I've run some of the free firewalls (including the free ZA and Comodo) and always go back to a subscription version of ZA.

I see what youre saying.....but I've been - or let's say my pc,
was doing fine for over 4 years so far, with the FREE ZA.

What I was trying to explain...is that SECURITY should be free.

ZA Free will likely still be there in a year. I like the non-free ZA better for the Program Control features it has.

JohnDoe....actually I have had the Pro version a few moons ago, ONCE - but then when it run out I deceided to go back to the Free one.
Why? Because even the Pro had a few more controls, I trust that my free ZA
    protects as it should.

    What do You think?

As I said, I like having the additional Program Control features that are not present in the free ZA.

There's many schools of thought on this. A software firewall really does not add that much more protection to a PC that is already behind a well-configured router. Myself, I have not had a Virus or Malware/Spyware infection in years and years, nor any detected. So is AV/AS superfluous for me? Perhaps. My basic premise is to use what brings function, value, productivity, or pleasure to me. Likewise, I try not to use anything that is detrimental to any of these.

But we diverge from the main topic of this thread.

I have ForceField for 1 year and got it on Patch Tuesday. But of course, the 'catch' is, Check Point will expect us all to renew when these free licenses run out.

I also was awarded a one-year license of ZASS for beta testing. I also Beta tested Extreme but was disappointed that they are taking Ad Blocking out of Extreme (or ZAX as they internally refer to it).

I'm running the current version of ZASS (8.0590). It seems to fluctuate in performance. Sometimes it seems invisible and other times my browser seems to bog down to a crawl. Anyone else having 'intermittent' slow down issues with ZASS? I got it for free (except for my time) so I shouldn't complain.

It's not a good idea to discuss how other people run their forums here at Wilders.

If you, myselft or anyone else have a complaint about how other people run their forums it would be a better idead to post that at their forums.

We shouldn't start that kind of topic here because we risk going off-topic and getting our posts removed by an Admin. or a Mod.

Having written this, please, let's go back in topic.

    Best regards,

    Carlos

In ideal world, where you wish to live, there should not be any need for security :)

See! There is no "free" ZA PRO being offered. It was supposed to be offered from 6 AM PDT on Tuesday morning, but it's now 8am and nothing is available for download.

A few off-topic posts removed. Patience people. If it is to start at 6am Pacific time on Tuesday, (which makes sense as Check Point uses a CA, USA address as their headquarters), then that's still quite a while from now.
