This is a reasonable enough free version but for pete's sake you can barely hear that tiny audible alert when it flags a find. Is there anyway at all to change it to a user's own preference like you can in it's regular scan?

The GUARD alert is barely audible.

    Thanks

Easter when I used Avira free and premium with the volume up the alert was pretty darn loud with my laptop.May be something wrong with your copy or changed in a Avira update.may be some here running Avira can confirm it loud or soft.

I hear a BEEP. It's not very loud, but I can hear it easily.

I also have no problem hearing it, but I prefer staying in the same room during a scan. Check your program configuration; there is a page ("further actions") that allows for the audible alert to be enabled or defeated.

Avira also displays a visual warning about any malware it finds, so even if you miss the audible alert you should still be receiving the visual notification.

Even with the volume set at 4/100 it is clearly audible on my computer.

Doesn't the beep just use the internal PC speaker? That's what I always thought. If so, then maybe it's just that the speaker is kinda buried or blocked somehow, so you don't hear it much.....

Yes, it's only the internal speaker!!!

yes, if you don't specify a new *.wav file for the alert, the default alert (using internal speakers) will be used.

Avira paid has an antispyware module and e-mail scanner, two things that are not in the free version. Otherwise, they are supposed to be identical.

Also the antiphishing, WebGuard, Faster update servers and the rescue cd creation system.

    Full comparison here.

BTW: The spyware detection can be pretty much covered up by MBAM and SAS. If you can live with slow update servers, and don't want the http scanner, the free version is just fine.

Actually, antiphishing is included in the free version (extended threats).

In any event, emperordarius is correct- either is a good choice; you decide if the added features are worth the subscription fee.

btw; On one of my hard drives, I have installed a free six month trial of Avira's security suite. I think it's superb, the full function antivirus/antispyware and the firewall are as non-intrusive as any security suite I've ever used (including , barely noticeable that an antivirus or a firewall is installed.
    Just wanted you to know

I think you made a good choice and will be happy with your decision.

After trialing Avira for a long time I purchased the Premium version even though I don't use the WebGuard or the e-mail scanner.

Well worth the price and I believe they should be supported for the work they do and for the excellent product they put out. :thumb:

The more people donate, the faster the program can evolve
