it's going to be distributed as a suite (file, web, mail antivirus, antispam, parental control) and usual antivirus.

in the original screenshots i could have sworn there was a firewall included.. or at least there would be in the final build. is this correct. or will there be no firewall. just curious. thanks

We had to sacrifice that firewall, as well as that GUI you've seen.

    They are coming soon, though.

Will the subscription price change when Version 5 is released out of beta? I assume current Dr. Web subscription Keys will work on version 5?

    nah, same scan speed.

this is the first beta, and only an intermediate one at that, the faster scanner will arrive later im sure.

to most, it will look and feel just like 4.44

but know this, the self protection, new engine, parental control, http scanner are all included.

So what does the *new* engine actually achieve then ??
I am guessing, it only has some minor fixes .... :'( But its only Beta 1... So hopefully better things will come.

Nevertheless, the possibilities and expectations are enormous...

the engine does have better detection, and also better curing abilities.

the scanner, is currently still the same speed.

If the signatures, heuristic analyzer and origins tracing are the same, how can it have better detection? Or will these be modified/tuned somehow?

Better unpacking, even more deep scanning and advanced disinfection routines, I would presume. I also expect an increase in detection rates. Why? Because I have noticed in Dr.Web that detection rate is dependent on engine version - having an older version of engine will cause Dr.Web to not detect some malware, even with the latest updates. I had observed this behaviour in Virus Chaser when it had an older engine than Dr.Web for a few days after Dr.Web would release a new engine update. Samples were not detected despite being added in definition updates - yet the original Dr.Web with updated engine would catch them, with the same virus bases. :)

It might have something to do with the way the definitions call engine APIs. That information is known only to Dr.Web though.

I don't know about the prices, just guess they will hardly change. Previous key will work, yes. AV for AV, AV + AS for a suite.

Your WMI repository is corrupt. I've myself posted the way to fix it here too many times to repeat it once more, not to mention others - use the search feature please.
