The first OS i ever used was Win95 if your talking 'WINDOWS' If not,it was a TI-99/4a (I was young then and didnt know anything about basic) Then i got a COMMODORE 64 which i love and use very much!! (I love the games i have on it) I can program pretty good in Basic on a commie,apple,etc........ Ah the good old days!!
PRIMOS 3 Rev.14 The machine had a control panel with 16 LEDs and 16 sense switches. I could make the LEDs flicker rapidly so the machine looked busy. This pleased the chairman who thought it must be a good investment. It did save us £hundreds a month of timeshare costs (this was in the late 1970s).
First off... "LOL" & !!!_THANXZZ_!!! i don`t feel so old anymore . Read all the replies-i_LiKe! Yeh, good old dos.exe`s... was that fun/? Then 3.11,95,98&se,XP&Pro_&Now! Heard GooD things though about Win7 thats on its way-RAM&Resource usage seems impresive, gonna try the Beta soon...! y`aLL be good now ya hear!!
Where can be Win 3.11 found? I ve never used that operation system, but it seems to be interesanting, becouse it is actually DOS aplication. Btw, I ve firstly used win 98.
DOS 1.0. I go back to the IBM key punch days. Oh ya I do browse this site now and then. Thanks Wildman
First OS was whatever ran the Sinclair ZX81. It had 1 KB RAM with optional clip-on 16K RAM pack, cassette memory. Such a tiny machine with 3 Functions per key, a no travel keypad. (BASIC perhaps? ) Bought it in the 80's off a 14yr old who had outgrown it Irony is I'd bought for a 35 yr old man to begin to learn computing LMAO! Then to C64 . Then AT/XT ( whichever was first ) with a whopping 20MB HD & 5.25" FD. Second owned was the "99% IBM Compatible" Amstrad 1640 with 30MB HD, 5.25" FD. First introduction to a Graphic Interface ie "GEM". Unfortunately Quick-Tune was in the 1% incompatible & killed the HD. DOS somewhere along the way & then Win 95 -> 98SE -> XP which I'm sticking with re MS/Windows systems for the foreseeable future. It's not at all obvious I'm a mere end-user, now is it? ~CL
not sure but the computer took 2 rooms in size and we put cards marked with 1's and 0's in it of course we made its answer 33.33333333................... just to piss the teacher off followed later by amiga then commodore64 wow
It was either Win 3.1 or 3.11; I don't remember. I was 1992 and I was completely new (and completely clueless) with computers. The moment I unpacked the unit (it was an Acer- I don't remember the model), I became totally overwhelmed by the experience and returned the computer within a week. I just wasn't ready to learn ! I hope that counts. btw; are you guys (and ladies) familiar with this website ? http://www.guidebookgallery.org/
Does a Commodore 64 count? I had one in 1984..not sure what type of OS it used. Then I had my first internet experience in May/June 1991 using BitNet. Anyone remember BitNet? heheh. I remember using a WYSE 50 terminal and typing "!MAIL" to access email. Subscribed to lots of lists via the listserver such as Freetalk, etc. I guess my real OS experience was with Unix in late 1991 and then Linux in early 1992 as our sysadmin at my university was quite excited about the new (and free!) Linux OS. I didn't understand the "man" pages (they never gave us a user-friendly explanation but our sysadmin said "read the man files"), but I remember using "finger", "talk", and accessing bulletin boards.. telnetting to get the weather reports and even saving files, but I forgot how to do that. I do miss the power of the command prompt and the REAL email found in PINE. Web-based email felt so phony... "click click..here's my mail.. what? No command prompt?" heh
Sinclair Basic on the Timex/Sinclair 1000. Used a cassette player to store, write, and load programs onto it. - winter of '82 in my first house. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timex_Sinclair_1000 SWEEEEET! Well, there were the punch cards and Fortran to feed into the compiler and run on the university's mainframe in the 1976-1980 timeframe - no clue what the OS for that was.
Windows 3.1 as far as I can remember, I do know I've used the Commodore as a kid and maybe some else.. But I know I have used 3.1 for a while
I voted for win3.1. But 5 years before that, in elementary, I was forced to use this Apple II computer (i think) that ran some cheap os and runs apps on 5.25 floppies. Is that apple basic or apple dos?
Good ole amiga for me...still bring tears to my eyes such was the wonderful memories wasting my time away pissing of my young lady at the time
