You could replace Norton AntiBot with the free ThreatFire or the paid Mamutu.

You using a firewall if you're running XP? If on vista, the vista FW is decent.

I don't know if anything else is needed... do you? There are classical HIPSes, behavior blockers, sandboxes, leakproof firewalls... The question is what do you want to achieve exactly?

You need a real HIPS, not only a behaviour IDS like Mamutu is.

If the original poster has been happy with Antibot, that is a program with few prompts, then Mamutu or ThreatFire are similar, but have been tested by users to be more effective. I'd say from reading the threads and seeing users test the products (recent one here), Mamutu is currently top of the hill, followed by the latest ThreatFire, then Norton Antibot.

Mamutu is great with the community ratings, incase if you are aware from your system, or are unsure of the action to take, then it selects what other users have selected. Also has paranoid mode, which gives it a boost.

ThreatFire is great as it is free and also includes an on-demand AV, although not the best, but a nice touch for the price.

If you're after more configurable setups, which might be complex, then give the program 'malware defender' a run, as very positive comments coming from users in its thread. Once off licence is a little high, but it is a lifetime licence and the developer is continually posting on these boards.

If you're after a slightly different program, splitting your programs from trusted and everything else as 'untrusted', then you also have DefenseWall. Once again, developer is on here everyday helping users with the program and it seems to pass anything thrown at it. :thumb:

Mamutu, Malware Defender and DefenseWall all have 30 day trials, so you can hav a few months of testing these products out before you make your choice.

I think that you can safely ditch mbam and a2, and keep sas. It would be even better if it was on realtime.
BTW, Comodo's HIPS is very powerful, if you wish to answer more popups, I think it's better than AntiBot.

An imaging program (preferably with images stored on a USB drive), if you don't have one, is an absolute must IMO, especially to protect your OS against your configuration mistakes.

Using a virtualizer/sandbox application will make surfing anywhere malware free.

Comodo firewall is a great product. But keep in mind if a user is used to minimal alerts, Comodo and D+ is at the opposite end, giving many alerts.

Osaban, good post. A number of imaging programs (Acronis/Paragon). For browsing, install sandboxie as it is lightweight, solid, and free. :)

I have been looking at Acronis. Can I save everything,(including the OS) to a USB drive? If not,i could pick up an external hd. I'll look into sandboxie.

Gigaybyte, When you have a Maxxtor or Seagate drive use the free version of Acronis = Maxxblast. What is also a nice program is Macrium Reflect™ v4.2 Free Edition
