I find this incident quite disturbing, as it clearly shows how the Internet has become a lawless environment where people not only commit rogue actions, but they even brag about them without any guilty feelings.

The Internet has always been hailed as the last frontier of the free world, especially concerning freedom of expression, it is very sad to witness this kind of behaviour.

It looks like SSU has found safe haven @COMODO forum, the Mods even help with excuses and beg them to stay :D

Maybe COMODO is looking for a higher ranking in the next SSU test o_O

Looks like their professionalism is heading in the right direction already .

With comments like this they are sure to establish themselves as a mainstay among the many respected security sites .

I can see the trusted experts lining up already eager to join them in the good fight .

I'd love to hear the story if you actually do give them a visit. :)

And I missed all the fun as it was happening? The suspense? The thrill? Noooooooo :'(

This strange series of events makes virus.gr look like a highly respectable test in comparison to SSUpdater, because even though VirusP's samples are unverified and from VX sources, his intentions aren't bad, and neither does he do anything illegal on his site! And indeed, in all certainty, I will say that virus.gr's tests are much, much more reliable than this, because the guys operating this test are, well, total amateurs while VirusP at least has some ground basic sorting tools with him (well, still not to the level of professional testers but way better than this).

But enough about virus.gr. This site, SSUpdater, seems to be run by a bunch of friends, all young, most likely in the age range of 19-26 (seems that way from the posts I saw, but dunno for sure). I feel a little pity that they lost their own website, but then they had it coming for behaving arrogantly, on purpose or not.......and well, the whole warez-keygen thing :ninja:

Interesting thing: Sometimes the warez (keygen) itself is detected as malware (Riskware) by some anti-malware products while others choose not to detect such files. Now if such files were included in the test set then one could explain the rather strange results of some AVs. Given that this site distributed keygens, it is likely a large number of samples were actually keygens detected as Riskware by some AVs and ignored by others. Well, its a long shot but maybe its true. I'll leave it to the experts to correct me if I am wrong, or add some information :)

    Agreed Osaban

It's frustrating for sure but if theres any consolation in all this web lawlessness, and specifically, especially many certain hosting services (since there is little or no regulation enforced on them depending on geography), it's that action against such ill practices are much more available then it used to be and can be SWIFT then in times past.

This was just another example of only one of the many bad neighborhoods in the internet circuit and although theres still plenty others out there, the dragnet is been consistently growing closer to all of them.

Those guys were perfectly STUPID to pull such a public antic like that and expect no real pressure or action against them from peddling stolen goods for lack of a better term.

It honestly displeases me that SSUpdater displays anything other then "This Account Has Been Suspended." *puppy*

I talked to comodo's CEO (Melih) about 48 hours ago and he is aware of the situation, The original thread about the 'Testing' Has been locked a couple of days ago and that thread your talking about now is just discussing the events that have followed, Just as you have now.

Well, here's further displeasure... the new site servers are called NS1.WAREZ-HOST.COM and NS2.WAREZ-HOST.COM, with an IP Address out of the UK!
