    To... RenoComputerRepair & Stainton

    Like I Said Yesterday...

I live in the UK ... And we get our Windows Updates a day later.
    So..
I got the AVG 8 Update - Thursday
I got the Windows Updates - Friday

When I turned on my Desktop Computer on Thursday...
    No Internet
    No AOL
    Normally..
Even if I lose my Internet connection.. It's extremely rare to see the AOL Taskbar Icon turn Grey & Red.

    Got My Internet Back :)
Managed to Update AVG 8 - Just About!
Thought Everything Was Back To Normal :D
But then when I tried to sign in to AOL ... Big Problems! :argh:
    Note!
The night before the AVG 8 update...
I had signed in and out of AOL just fine :)
If I had come here to Wilders and said all this ... Then everyone else had said - " No Problems Here! "
    I'd have put the 3 things ...
    1/ Temporary Loss Of Internet
    2/ AVG 8 Update
    3/ Broken AOL Software
    ...Down to Coincidence :(

    However!
    What A Coincidence :(
That other people have reported problems with their Internet :doubt:
My AOL Software being all to do with Internet.. It's hard to believe it Just happened to die - That Day!

    Stainton..
Can I ask what version of the AOL Software you're using please?
    I Was Using... AOL 9.0VR ( UK - Version )

    Thanks! ;)

Re: AVG 8 196 Problem with internet blocked after update - Paid ... What Number?

In my case, removing and reinstalling AVG 8 did not help. I am using Windows Vista 32-bit. The update from MS does not seem to have anything to do with this odd behaviour from AVG, as I had the update installed before I got the AVG update......

It is possible that this issue might only affect select hardware configurations, but its a long shot. :doubt:

I am also sure the MS update had nothing to do with it, as I got the AVG update before getting the MS update on the machine that failed, so they are not related. Uninstalling AVG fixed my connection immediately. I did not reinstall. As for hardware, it would be hard to track down. I have a backup server that is identical hardware that did not have a problem.

My AOL is version 9.0. By the way, I got my Windows Update (UK) on Thursday, followed by the AVG update on the same day.

    Hi Stainton :)

    NOT... 9.0VR ?
    Maybe that's the difference :doubt:

I'm not sure why we got our Windows Updates on different days :doubt:
1/ If you're using XP .. and .. I'm using Vista ... That Could Be Why!
You would have had different updates to me.

2/ Because my Internet was :thumbd: when I turned on my computer on Thursday...
Windows Update had Not automatically checked for updates :(
I had to click - Check For Updates
    Still...
If they were available at the time .. I'm sure I would have been given them :doubt:

    Re : Windows Update Days
    All I know Is...
Where the USA get their updates on Tuesday morning.. I don't get mine until Wednesday morning.
All my friends, family, and people on another forum I visit ( All Using - Vista )... Get their Windows Updates a day later too!
    However!
1/ Last Week... Updates didn't come on Wednesday.
2/ I suppose it depends on...
    What OS you have
    How important the updates are
And Maybe Just... What mood Microsoft is in ;)

AOL 9.0VR - the VR stands for Vista Ready. I'm on XP so that's probably why mine is still only AOL 9.0.

    Hi Sainton :)

    Quite Possibly! ;)

    However!
    Re : AOL
    I Bring... News!

I've just found someone on another forum... With Exactly The Same AOL Problem As Me
    Well Actually...
It's their Friend that has the AOL Problem.
The person posting... Was posting for a friend.

    This persons friend...
Noticed that their AOL Software had gone - :thumbd: - On The 24th ... The Day After - Me! :(
    Coincidence? ... I Don't Think So! :doubt:

I think something strange could be going on with AOL :'(

    Why?

    Well For A Start...
    On The 31st Of October
    AOL Is Shutting Down...
    AOL Message Boards
    AOL Pictures
And a load of other AOL - Stuff!

I'm Waiting For Conformation.... Does This Persons Friend have - AVG 8 ?

    IF NOT...
1/ Could AOL be refusing to admit.. There is a serious problem with AOL - VR
    * I Have Phoned Them... They Never Admit Anything!
2/ Could AOL have deliberately done this... To people that have Photos stored with AOL
    * If we don't download our photo's to our computers by the 31st ... We lose them forever :'(
    However!
Could the prospect of thousands of people, all trying to download their photos..
Be too much for AOL UK to cope with :doubt:

I Smell A Rat Somewhere :cautious:
And I think that rat could possibly be called - AOL
I'm now thinking that the AVG 8 thing was just a coincidence ... Happening on the same day as AOL :doubt:
    OR Maybe...
It was actually AOL that caused my problems getting the AVG 8 update

I Think AOL UK ... Is On Its Way Out! :argh:

    Hi Everyone :)

    The Final Conclusion

It Was AVG 8 - Paid! ... That Killed My AOL Software :'(

Despite The Fact... I Still Think AOL UK Is Going :thumbd: Fast!

In the case of my recent AOL Problem... AOL has been proven innocent :D

    AVG 8 - Paid! ... Guilty!

Re : The Man With The Friend ... Who Had The Same AOL Problem

    Well It Turns Out...
The Mans Friend - Does Indeed Have.. AVG 8 - Paid!

    Case Closed! :(

    Re : AOL

    JRViejo Said ...
Thanks for correcting my mistake with the date ;)

Re : That Day Last Week
If I Had Known For Sure... AVG 8 - Paid .. Had Broke My AOL Software :doubt:
Then I probably would have left my AOL Software Installed on my Desktop Computer.
Not Tried Signing In To It!
And just waited to see if AVG 8 - Paid ... Sent out an Update - Fix :doubt:
    However!
Because I've Already Uninstalled My AOL Software :(
And because all the things it was worth having for ( eg. AOL Pictures ) ... Is Being Shutdown :'(
I've Decided Not To Reinstall My AOL Software.
When a New Version of the AOL Software is available in the UK ( AOL 9.0VR - Was never very stable anyway :thumbd: )
    OR...
Once I'm completely convinced... AOL UK hasn't been hit by the Credit Crunch .. And - Going Bust! :argh:
Then I'll Consider... Reinstalling My AOL Software ;)

    I Do Often Wonder...
How many people have been hit by this AVG 8 - Paid / AOL Software Problem :doubt:
    It Seems...
This Problem Depends On A Few Deciding Factors
    AVG 8 - Paid!
    And...
    AOL 9.0VR

I bet a lot of people don't even realise.. How Their AOL Broke o_O

On systems that were affected by the AVG 8.0.196 update it broke all web based access. Therefore people such as yourself who rely on using AOL as the gateway to the internet were unable to sign on. I had a client running AVG file server on Server 2003 who received the update last Thurs. and notified me the following morning. They could ping thru cmd prompt, and after 15 min. of t/s'ing I disabled the AVG web scan and http traffic was working in both IE & FF. Once I ran an AVG repair things were back to normal.

    Hi EliteKiller :)

    For some strange reason...
It seems some of us were affected by last weeks AVG 8 - Paid Update .. In a slightly different way to others :doubt:

When I turned on my Desktop Computer last Thursday ( The Day Of The AVG 8 - Paid Update )
My Internet had already gone :thumbd:
    I Can Only Presume...
The AVG 8 Update - Cut My Internet... As soon as it connected, and tried to start downloading the Update.
    Of Course...
AVG 8 - Paid .. Quickly Gave Me The Message - " Update Failed! .. AVG 8 Could Not Connect To The Server "

    Note!
My Laptop Was Still Connected To The Internet ( NIS 09 )
And My Router Showed No Signs Of Being Disconnected.
It Was Only My Desktop Computer Having Internet Problems o_O

    However!
To get my Desktop Computer reconnected to the Internet.
And to get AVG 8 Updated
I still ended up having to... Reboot My Router!

Once I Had Rebooter My Router...
    My Internet Was Back :D
And I was able to get AVG 8 - Paid to Update
The Update Did Fail Once :argh:
    But When I Re-Clicked - Update ... Finally - Success!

    So - By This Point...
    I'd got my Internet back
I'd managed to get AVG 8 - paid .. Updated!
Obviously... I Thought Everything Was Back to Normal

Then I Tried Signing Into AOL :argh:

    That Day...
Had I known there was someone else with exactly the same problem as me...
    Like I Said...

    However!
With No One Else To Confirm... " The AVG 8 - Paid Update .. Broke My AOL Software "
I Ended Up Thinking... AVG / AOL ... Probably A Coincidence :doubt:
And I Uninstalled My AOL Software.

Now I Know... It Was No Coincidence :(
With someone to confirm... They have been through exactly the same thing...
    e.g.
    Full Internet Access Via.. IE7
    But.. AOL :thumbd:
I Know without a shadow of a doubt... It had to have been the AVG 8 - Paid Update

The Other Person With The Same AVG 8 - Paid / AOL Software Problem...
Because they were able to find out from my problem...
It was probably AVG 8 - Paid that broke their AOL Software :(
They Got To keep Their AOL Software :thumb:
How Did They Solve Their Problem?
They uninstalled... AVG 8 - Paid
And They Replaced It With... Avast
Their AOL Software was suddenly - Fixed! :)

    NOTE
I had another Big Update for AVG 8 - Paid Last Night
    AVG 8 ... 8.0.198
If that update was to Fix the problem with AOL 9.0VR ... I Will - :'(

Yes, I am still exchanging logs from AVG diagnostics to get things in order. Will keep you informed if I find a fix. I had been out for a few days, and now version 198 has been released. I will try to install the new version and see if that changes anything.

    Hello All,
I have been following this thread since the beginning. On my Vista machine listed in my sig. I decided to wait and let things settle out. Been really busy and not on the net much any way so just left that system off at least 2 weeks.

I am on it now pickup 12 MS updates and AVG updates that all required restart. Got a ACEGame Zone Warning that it was a Trojan...told AVG to heal it. Don't use OEM loaded GameZone anyway. :p

Outpost alerted me to two driver updates related to AVG 8, the first was a firewall change. Since I dont' run AVG firewall I said block once. :doubt: Then a different driver update came up I did not recognize so I said allow. I am currently running update 198 with all AVG security components on. As you can see I am on the net with no known issues. Everything seems to be working just fine. However I have only been on for about 20 minutes. I also updated Opera to the latest 9.62 version which is the browser I am using at the moment. I do not use AOL. :p

Everything seems to...so far work just fine. Best of luck to all who are having problems. I'll let you know if anything pops up and if I fix it I will let you know what I did. Otherwise I'll just watch this thread and see how it goes for you. :thumb: :)

    Hi Everyone :)

    AVG 8 - Paid - Update.. Update!

    AVG 8 - Paid .. Is Now Version Number : 8.0.199

    3pm in the UK
Knowing It's Wednesday - Windows Update Day  ...
I thought I'd better turn on the Desktop Computer .. And make sure it's all ready for my little lad, coming home from school.
    Desktop Computer - Fully Booted!
I could see my CPU and Hard Drive were rather more busy than normal.
Knowing it's Wednesday - I just thought... " Must be a big Windows Update "
Then my Internet went - OFF
    However!
Unlike the other week... It did manage to - Reconnect Itself :D
Then... AVG 8 - Paid .. Turned Grey & Red :argh:
It didn't give me any - " AVG 8 Could Not Connect To The Server - Update Failed! " messages o_O
So I just sat there staring at it for a few minutes.
Willing it to turn back to normal :(
    In The End...
I was just about to click the AVG 8 Taskbar Icon .. To find out what was wrong... When - Up Popped A AVG 8 Message!
" Restart Your Computer For The Latest Updates To Take Affect "
    I Clicked To - Restart

When the computer came back on...
    AVG 8 - Paid .. Version : 8.0.199

Knowing It's Wednesday ... Knowing I'd clicked Restart for AVG 8 ... Realising too late - Windows Updates might have been in the middle of installing...
    Thank God!
The only Windows Update today... Was for - Windows Defender
And for some strange reason ( Probably because AVG 8 had cut my Internet OFF again ) ...
The Windows Defender Update .. Didn't Come In... Until after I had Restarted my Desktop Computer for - AVG 8

So Many Large AVG 8 - Paid Updates
Could They Possibly Be Trying To - Put Right! ... The Damage They Did The Other Week :doubt:

With NO AOL Software Anymore... I Guess I'll Never Know

Program update AVG 8.0.199 (HF3) - Looks like AVG fixed 3 BSOD issues with this update.
