Looking at buying an upgrade to 2009 Home I see that the price includes 19% value added tax.

In the UK, where I am, VAT is 17.5%.

    What gives?

Also if I go to the US site it's about five pounds cheaper. Is there any problem buying it from overseas?

    Thanks.

Why not forget the upgrade? If what you have works, leave well enough alone. Most of the bells and whistles are problematic for many, and the core software has been pretty stable since version 8 with respect to making reliable image backups.

I need to upgrade. Found only 2009 will correctly handle my XP/Vista dual boot. Been using the beta and more recently the trial.

    So my questions stand.

One thing you'll need to factor in, is, if you purchase in US$ will the exchange rate offered by your credit card plus their fee, still make it cheaper than buying from the UK site?

I assume Digital River use a German or Dutch account if they are charging VAt at 19%.

If it helps, I live in Australia, but normally purchase from the US site as the exchange rate is better. I don't think there is anything specific to the version offered on the UK site. This is not the case for those who live on the European mainland, where Acronis for some reason require their products to use a licence server.

It's Cleverbridge AG on the UK site; they're German.

I saw that too. However, the difference between 19% and 17.5% is only 30p.

    Well to quote Mr Micawber

Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pound ought and six, result misery. :D
