Yes, you won't find many companies going to Vista over Xp, but I think that's more out of fear of compatibility issues rather than pure "performance". Every company I know, including mine, are still on Xp and have no plans to change that.

Eye candy is nice. Had I thought a bit more bout it, I might have even bought a Mac!

I believe it was another person that was kinda bashing Vista, not you..

It is true though, that now HDs are huge and cheap, and so is ram pretty much, so why should we care bout bloat and size? The only reason I care bout it is performance. I really don't care if Vista eats 200 gigs of my HD, and uses 8mb ram, as long as it is snappy and performs well. As it is now for me, on a new PC, it performs "well enough" to fall in that class. Sure, it's not the best performer, but it doesn't strike me as deficient either..... So I use and like it.

At the moment I'm falling in love with mandriva 2009 and kubuntu 8.10. For me KDE 4.1 is the best eye candy for the time being.

ps. without sacrifing in overall performance. :D :p

Can you imaging having to image 200gigs? And making incremental backups everyday or differential backups once a week? I would prefer to throw the damn thing out of the window instead of going through this hassle... :argh:

Yep, KDE4 is my favorite now..... I won't even look at 3 anymore.... If you like nice looking distros, have a peek at OzOS. Very nicely done, and performance is unmatched, it really flies........

Yeah, it does get a bit ridiculous I guess, but that trend and the "logic" behind it started long long ago.... I suppose there's no stopping it now....

Thanks, but since it is based on ubuntu 8.04 I cannot try it.
Ubuntu previous to 8.10 always destroyed my raid array. :'(

I don't think the benefits of Vista are great enough for me to make a change.

For those that have been using Vista for a while now, have you noticed a decrease in UAC prompts?

    ye seems that way.

what i think as to windows 7 is watch this space. if they listen to customer feedback and sort out the issues then it could be a decent OS.
