I have Vista Home Premium. Installing and updating was fast. I did not time it but I would say around 5 to 8 minutes. I use Revo Uninstaller so it takes longer to uninstall a program. When I uninstalled the Beta it was a smooth uninstall. Did I completely remove all tracks of Symantec? I don't know did not check. I did install Nod after uninstalling NIS and had no problems with Nod. As I'm typing this I checked NIS it's using a little over 7 megs of Ram. No kidding NIS runs very light.

install took around 40seconds. update around 1-3min and that was it.
i just moved norton account to the side and later on typed in random data.
it has improved with install speed, scan speed but but not i would trust it.
didnt try uninstall just restored an image lol. so i cannot comment on uninstall.

    - Everyone's experience is different. On my laptop (2.2 Ghz core 2 duo, 3 GB ram, Vista Home Premium SP1) it took about 5 minutes to install, create an account, update and re-boot. Seemed OK to me.

    - Updates sometimes require a re-boot but other AV's do this as well, like Kaspersky.

    - Uninstall...still a question for me.

    - NIS 2009 runs lighter on my laptop than ESS, Avira and KIS. Everything is quicker.

    Only just noticed this..

Re : Your NIS 09 Uninstall Problem

Are you sure all of KIS got uninstalled?
    Why I ask...
Terrible memories of installing a Trial of KIS .. On my old XP :argh:
    KIS didn't install properly!
It Didn't Uninstall Properly Either
At The Time... There was No - KIS Removal Tool
I ended up having to do a Full Recovery of my Computer :'(

    Just Thinking... You Never Know!
Bits and pieces of old security software ... Can cause problems :(

    Just Thought I'd add...
People carry on about Norton not uninstalling properly.
But I've heard just as many ( uninstall ) horror stories about lots of different security software.
    e.g.
    AVG
    Comodo
    And many others!

    Hi Zeena!!!

Prior to installing NIS, I loaded a clean FDISR snapshot that has never had any security software installed so I am sure there are no conflicts and nothing left over.

I also had some problems with KIS/KAV removal several years ago but their current regular uninstall routine works very well. They do have a removal tool as well but I have not had the need to try it out so far.

I am going to try uninstalling NIS again probably tomorrow.

I've used ESET Smart Security, Aviras Internet Security and Kaspersky Internet Security, in terms of installing/updating/uninstalling NIS 2009 would take the gold, Avira the Silver and ESET and Kasperksy with the Bronze.
Protection wise thats a dif story, NIS is way lighter then all that I have tried, computer starts up and tray icons load very quickly, when I had avira/kaspersky they would load one Icon per 4 seconds..., ESET loaded fast though but I dont trust its protection based on AV-Comparatives

It would be a downgrade in detection.

Not according to AV-Comparatives for their on-demand test. I haven't seen any test results yet for pro active ability.

Especially if it's something to do with your Internet Connection.
You should report the problem at the - Norton Forum : http://community.norton.com/norton/

When the NRT took out my Card Reader
After mentioning the problem at other forums.
    It turned out..
The NRT had also taken the Card Readers of 2 other people
All 3 of us have HP computers

If your Internet goes again :(
    OR...
If anything shows a yellow exclamation mark in - Device Manager

    Hi Zeena...

Thanks for following up on this issue.

I think I am going to stick with what I have been doing for about a year now as it has worked without any issues. Every couple of months I alternate between Avira Premium and KIS 2009. I just can't get comfortable enough with NIS to make a change.

I kinda do the same, I just check AV-Comparitives and the Internet security reviews to make my decision, usually toggle between eset/kis/norton/avira (hole in the wallet)

I added keyscrambler for keylogger protection. I also run SuperAntiSpyware Pro and Winpatrol Plus - they all get along and there's no big performance hit.
