Acronis urge upgrade to TI 2009 - why would I?

I have today received an email from Acronis urging me to upgrade to TI 2009 - my question is why would I? For my money Acronis reached their Zenith with TI 10 and it appears to have all been downhill from that high water mark. TrueImage 11 has as far as I can see having used it more bugs than a three week old ham sandwich and TI 2009 seems to be building on the tradition set by TI 11. No USB or card-readers or at least if there are then they have been assigned different drive letters etc. etc. to mention just a couple of issues with advice to edit the registry. You just couldn't make this stuff up could you?

 

I agree, fix the previous version then maybe the next version would instill some confidence in us.

I am still waiting for responses to support questions for 1 week, so much for their respond within 48 hours.

 

My opinion, which I put forward when Version 11 came out, has not changed.

To anyone who has purchased Version 2009 Acronis should offer a free copy of version 10 on demand.
To anyone who already has Version 10 Acronis should refund the "Upgrade" cost without hesitation where this is requested.

I really cannot see Acronis surviving in the Home backup market for much longer. They issued V 11 in a dreadful state and many functions have not been fixed.
Just a glance at the V 2009 manual is enough to convince me that this product is a lame duck and that it should be withdrawn.

This situation reminds me of a firearms safety demonstration shown on the web where the officer replaced the gun in its holster and literally shot himself in his foot. Before the pain hit home he actually tried to carry on with the show.

I received one of those emails today. However the price is quoted in dollars. The fact that Acronis apparently believe that either a) the UK is now the 51st state, or b) that non-US customers are so far down the scale of humanity that they needn't bother trying to quote a price in their local currency does not fill me with confidence.

And the rest of the posts on this thread haven't sent me rushing to order a copy either. I think I'll stay with Ver 10.

I used to be such a great fan of ATI - I started with version 9. But then I noticed that new versions were being released with new features, but no fixes to old problems. And some of the new features had problems themselves. I was so hoping that ATI 2009 would be different, but that does not seem to be the case, given the reactions in this forum from posters whose opinions I respect.

I'm done convincing myself to stick with TI. The best part of my TI experience was learning from the many knowledgeable and dedicated folks who post here. I appreciate your efforts.

 

I received the email as well and was even offered a discount to upgrade so was hoping some of those that have already upgraded would offer an opinion on the upgrade. After the v11 upgrade I am not sure I even want to continue to use TI.

 

See my note above. I have versions 6,7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and now 12 or 2009. Version 10 was the last great version for me - I primarily clone. 11 is needed for Vista cloning. 12 has all the 11 shortcomings and is SLOWER!

 

If you buy a version and it doesn't work for you. You shouldn't buy the upgrade and pay additional money. You should get a refund for the original purhcase and then consider purchasing the newer version.

 

I have had zero issues with TI 2009 on my Vista 64 bit system. I was using TI 10 before that. I actually had an issue where I would get the "your system did not shut down properly, hit any key to continue" screen after a TI 10 restore. I don't get that anymore using TI 2009. The rescue CD is quick to boot, and creating images from within windows is fast and reliable.

My older brother is also using TI 2009 on his new Vista PC. Works great!!

Oh, and to the OP......why should you upgrade? You shouldn't if you have a working build.

 

I used 8, then 9, then 10, then 11, got a refund for 11, and now 2009. All I do is manual back ups and restores, so I have had no issues. I have beta versions of Windows 7 32 and 64 bit - FWIW - ATI 2009 works OK in the 32 bit version, but will not install in the 64 bit version. I can get ATI 10 to install in the 64 bit version - go figure.

10 seems to be Crown Prince of ATI versions.

ETA - Me thinks the old saying "If it works, don't fix it" applies here somewhere.

 

I'll hold my hand up and state that I reletented and purchased 2009 - best decision I have made in a long time as for me at least 2009 is a great all round back up solution.
