Signature database used during scan

This could be a very silly question which could be put down to lack of sleep but here goes. I just started a scan and in the Scan window and was informed that the "Version of virus signature database used:" is 3495 (20081004). When I hover my mouse over the Nod icon it informs me that the virus signature database version is 3505 (20081008 ).

So why is the scan using an older virus signature database version and not the most recent?

Sorry if this has been asked before. I did a search first and could not find anything that related to this.

 

Try running another scan now when the signature database is up to date. Maybe it's a problem with data refresh (which I haven't heard about so far) so should the problem persist, try restarting the computer.

 

Marcos, thanks for the quick reply. I did another scan and it did report using the latest database. Being curious I looked in the log of the scan I wrote about and it states that it used 3505 (2008100) so it would seem that it is using the most recent database but for some strange reason it reported using an older version in the scan window.

I will keep an eye on this and see if it repeats this behavior.

 

If you read what it says it says "Last Scan Result" and then "Version of virus database used"

It is telling you the virus database version that was used in the last scan, not what is being used this time or the next time you run a scan.

For example mine says

3461 (20080922) because thats the database that was loaded when i last ran a scan on my PC. Start a scan and it updates to 3505 (20081008 ).

The whole things reads

All the information is to do with the Last Scan that was run. Once the current scan ends this information is updated, even if you stop it part way through. The log will show the latest database being used becuase it is, for the current scan, but the information shown on the window is to do with the Last Scan which could have been months ago.

Real example: My last scan was a 11:22 today. I started another one at 11:24. Currently NOD32 is reporting the last scan was a 11:22, even after a scan is started it reports it was 11:22. I've stopped it now at 11:25 and it now says 11:25:54

 

PaulB2005, you are correct. I just tried again and the scan window is indeed talking about the last scan run, not the present. Damn my tired eyes!! Thanks for clearing this up.
