Hi, i have a question about the panda platinum email protection.

Does this also scan email programs other than outlook express.

I am currently trying Mozilla Thunderbird and Panda doesnt report my emails as being scanned.

    Hy!

On my box Panda Platinum 7 works with Outlook XP.
According to this test in a german computer magazine it also runs with Eudora 6.01, Pegasus Mail 4.12a
    and The Bat! 2.01
However it has problems receiving mails with Mozilla 1.5

I have panda platinum 7 also and just yesterday I checked my mail scanning with eudora 6.1 and the eicar email sent from panda was found immediatly so it does work with eudora. I don't get a mail scanned notice in reports but unless I am mistaken it will record mail scan with outlook express.only.But eudora is protected. ;) i have not been able to find any info about panda scanning mozilla mail. You might want to go to the eicar page and mail yourself a eicar test to your mozilla mail and see if it is actually being checked.

    Thanks for the replies :)

Well i`ve tested with the Eicar file and no, Panda doesnt scan the emails.

It did however detect and disinfect the file when i tried to open the attachment.

At the moment Panda definately seems to perform better and quicker than the Etrust v7 promo at real time protection, although Etrust does detect ok when doing an on demand scan.

Just tested it with Opera M2 - doesn't scan the mails.
But as you said, if you open the file every on access scanner will catch it.

    Thanks Starfox :)

I`ve also tried email protection with outlook express and it seems to scan ok

I use currently use Firefox as my web browser, is there likely to be any conflicts with http scanning with using this browser as opposed to internet explorer ??

    Thanks bigc

I note from your signature that you also use Bitdefender 7.1.

Which is it that you use as your main AV out of the two.

One other question, you have a lot of posts under your name so you must have had plenty of experiences with different antivirus programs, and from information on this forum.

How do you compare Panda and Bitdefender to other AV`s that you have used.
Are there any that you would use again once your subscriptions expire??
Or are you happy with what you have and are likely to stay with them.
    Thanks :)

I have used an awful lot of different av's over the years and i liked most of them. I am useing panda as my primary av bitdefender free is an on demand scanner only. I have just started useing panda platinium and I am very surprised at how light it is on my system resources. I have used difrferent versions of panda before but none of them have run this light. When the sub. runs out on the panda I am not sure what I will do. I have used kav, nod, mcafee norton, panda ,computer associates and quite a few others and They all seem to work pretty well. But in my own experience I would probably go back to mcafee if I decide to not renew panda. This is just a personal preference because I have had next to no trouble with mcafee over the years. I really kind of hate to recomend an av to strongly for the simple reason that all av"s don't run the same on all systems . and then you have the difference in your version of windows that will make a difference. My recomendation would be to trial some of the better known av's and see how they run on your computer and after trialing a few you will be much better prepared to make a decision on an av that you want to spend a little hard earned money on. I hope this helps.

    Thanks again bigc :)

And yes, you have helped

I`ve only recently started using Panda after using various other AV`s, in fact the only one i have not tried from your list is Bitdefender.
I have until now avoided Panda simply because of none too friendly comments made about the program around the web, another factor was the lack of testing of Panda by the VB100%.
Your comments about trying them for yourself make complete sense as i have been more than pleasently suprised by its detection rate, and as you say its very low on system resources, with no noticable effect on my machine, unlike Kav and Nortons.

I am also using CA`s free promo as my back up scanner.

    Thanks again.
