Norton AntiVirus 2009

Well, just one word describes this new offering......................WOW.

For many years I've been a Symantec knocker, excellent detection rates etc. but at a cost, processing power, ram eating, uninstalling nightmare etc etc.

Things finally have changed, for the good.
The package installs quickly, efficiently and the GUI is classy, professional looking and very,very easy to navigate.

There is a real time CPU monitor, think they finally got the message from all the wishlists, that shows how much is in use by the prog.
Updates are real-time, minutes old instead of days.
Scanning time has been greatly improved aswell.

Couple this with Symantec's already impressive detection rates, they could be on to a winner here this time!

Pity these guys don't do a home version for free like Avira, AVG, Avast etc.

They have greatly improved from their previous products it takes less than a minute to install and utilizes abt 10 MBs of memory (in idle condition)

 

I use it in work. We had Norton 2007 when I started and when I upgraded to 2008 I was very impressed with it, but 2009 just blew us away.

I work in software development, so the machines get pushed hard and we can't run centralised management because it causes issues with the individual setups.

 

As has been said in all other Norton threads (mainly relating to NIS though), the 2009 versions are "top drawer".

 

yep, but the AV is still a better deal for the money.

 

Hopefully their acquisition of PC Tools will soon change this.

 

Yes for many yrs as you stated I believe to have what brought the hate crowd but at last they have there ears on now.They may never recover that crowd but certainly may gain more ground with this version.

 

I downloaded the trail a few hours ago and I really am quite impressed with it. I never thought I'd ever see a version of Norton use less than 10Mb of memory. Plus, the detection rates are supposedly fabulous. Well I applaud Symantec for trying hard and making a genuinely great product.

I hated Norton AV when I was using it back a few years ago. Detection rates were awful, it was a pain to install, and even worse to try to uninstall. Are you guys saying that these issues have been addressed? Also, are there any HIPS-like features in the product? Thanks for the info.

yes they have been resolved and yes it has a hips like feature "Norton antibot"

I've now been using it for just over a day, and it's so far shown it self to be great product. Yes, the detection rates according to AV-Comparatives whom gave it an 'Advanced+' rating shows us that they are very good. For the install, it took less than a minute for me. As for uninstall I haven't tried that out but I should imagine that it's just as quick.

All in all, and in comparison to old versions of Norton, this is a superb Antivirus.

 

And if you turn on "Advanced Events Monitoring" you will have a traditional HIPS.

Two questions

- Does anybody no about a time frame for a release off a 5 pc dutch license version.
- Why is it, that the onlinestore is more expensive.

 

That was the main reason i haven't even trialled it, if they dare ask us dutchies such a high price when in other rich parts of the world is asked a third (?) of what they want us to pay then i will take my hard earned money elsewhere.
