Virtual Machines and Windows 98 se

I have tried to install Win98 se on both VMware Workstation and VirtualBox. I did not succed both times. And I didn't figure out where I was wrong?

I have tried everything with fdisk. With 98 and MS-DOS floppy bootdisks. I either get

"If you have HPFS or NTFS installed on your hard drive, you will need to create an MS-DOS boot partition to set up windows"

or

"Windows setup requires "largest executable program size" to be at least 442368 bytes to run".

I tried absolutely everything. With 2 different copies of Win98. No success. Couldn't get it to boot. I've run out of options. There must be a way to get it to work.

I thought this would help. But it didn't. My host OS is Win XP Pro.

Please, can anybody help me?

Thanks but I don't see how that link helps. I already read it earlier this evening. I simply can't boot the installation cd.

 

I simply can't figure out how to make it possible to boot the installation cd. Anything I do leads to some kind of an error. Hope somebody can explain what exactly needs to be done to get it to work. I've spent hours trying.

Hello,
Boot from Windows 98 CD.
Then, choose the command prompt option (don't remember exact wording).
Create partitions with fdisk.
Reboot the second time and begin installation.
That's how I did it.

Problem solved. It took quite some time to figure out what needed to be done. I had to follow the procedure from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/221829

Something that wasn't needed before when hard disks were normally prepared for Win98 by default. Now you have to recreate FAT16 or FAT32 and format. And also the boot floppy disk has to be started without cd rom support during the procedure. After that restarting the comp, booting from floppy with cd rom support. And the rest is a usual procedure from the ancient times.
