Spybot 1.6 introduces talkative Teatimer

    I just installed spybot 1.6 Saturday and already have to shut off Tea Timer. They show so many baloon alerts I can't seem to do my work.

    Anyone know how to turn this off.

    PhiloVance, SpybotS&D 1.6 installs itself in Default mode, with most of its settings hidden. If you promise to return to that default mode after you are done ;) I'll show you how to turn off TeaTimer.

    Got to Mode, select Advanced mode, read the Warning prompt, click Yes. On the left hand column, 3 buttons just appeared at the bottom. Click on the Tools button, then Resident. Uncheck Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) active. Go back to Mode and select Default mode and TeaTimer won't pester you anymore.

    I do not have Spybot 1.6 and I do not use Tea Timer because of an incident I had about three years ago with Tea Timer (I was updating Norton Internet Security (Program and Definitions) and I kept clicking on Tea Timer's "Yes" (Allow Change) and my hand slipped and hit the Enter key on the number pad causing a "No" to one of the Tea Timer prompts. This "crippled" Norton. I could not find any way to undo the mistake. I was unable to Reinstall or Uninstall Norton. I wound up formatting and starting over.)

    However, I do have Spybot 1.5.2.20 (Used mainly for Immunization feature) which probably has the same method to enable/disable Tea Timer.

    TheKid7, no harm done! You are using the older Spybot version and the step to eliminate TeaTimer is the same yet someone reading this thread will benefit from your Norton information as well. Thanks for posting it!

    How about right clicking on the Tea Timer tray icon :rolleyes: ? The original poster asked how to get rid of the baloon tips, not how to turn of Tea Timer.

    khagaroth, first, welcome to Wilders!

    Your point is a valid one. You can uncheck Show info balloons via the tray icon. However, the main Allow/Deny alerts can not be stopped unless you tweak the Settings (also via the tray icon) for each individual Process and/or Registry Change (Allowed/Blocked).

    PhiloVance originally stated "I just installed spybot 1.6 Saturday and already have to shut off Tea Timer." The fact that both TheKid7 and I offered the same instructions, is an indication that completely turning off TeaTimer, was what was meant by the OP or at least understood by us.

    Since PhiloVance has not returned to post, we can't be certain if the two of us missed the original drift of the post. :doubt:

    TeaTimer does not 'install itself' - it is a checked option in the install windows which, if you looked at them, you could have unchecked it.

    i hate that teatimer, its very annoying. spybot is the best before, but now it lost its shining star. SAS and MBAM is the winner.
