LOL read post above. I don't use keygens. I have keys for anything I download, main reason for downloading is if the CD no longer works prop.

as for Eset.. it does detect them  I have it on 2 other computers in the house it still flags them. but not as much then again it don't detect as much ether. so meh! guess it kind of does everything in fewer numbers.

I know, mate :) , I wasn't pointing at you or any specific persons, just speaking in general. Also I'm not trying to look like I'm a holy man or something. I'll bet all in this forum have tried a keygen, just to keep that trial version run a little bit longer, right?!? :D

    Cheers

My previous anti-virus license expired about a week ago and since then I've been running Avira AntiVir Premium 30-day trial.

Quick question for those individuals with Avira Security Suite Premium:
Can you select NOT to install individual components (e.g. WebGuard, SystemBackup) at the start of installation?

I've been happily running Comodo Firewall without issues for quite some time and I'd like to stick with it

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks.

You can de-select individual parts when you install it and you can also uninstall them afterwards. In add/remove programs click on it and select change (or whatever it says in the English version). If you don't want to use the firewall you might consider going for the AV without the bells and whistles, it would save you some $$ since it's quite a bit cheaper than the suite.

Indeed only the antibot feature(which i'm sure comodo can handle it better),and antispam are in the suite .And 20 more $ for these doesn't sound a deal.

Thanks for the quick responses :)

I'm liking AntiVir Premium thus far (with the exception that MailGuard won't work with a POP3 port other than 110) and unless it fails utterly in the next 25 days, Avira will be getting my money.

I had Avira before I started using comodo. I had already purchased the Security suite. but I disabled the firewall at install and I leave the anti bot running along with Defense+ from Comodo so far no issues and once comodo quieted down its quite nice.

My advice would be to skip the Security suite and go just for the AV if you are running Defense+ as there really is no need for the extra.

That was my thought as well. I'm not sure what the anti-bot thing even does, so I guess I can live without it. I don't use software firewalls either, since I have the IPCop firewall distro running on an old Dell desktop I picked up for 20 euros. With that, the AV, limited user account and all unnecessary services, ports, etc. turned off, everything is very quiet here :)

Some keygens contain some vicious trojans and is the leading cause of malware infections throughout.

Using cracked software is really silly considering you can get some great alternatives on SnapFiles under freeware section. I mean there is really good free alternative to every commercial program there is.

    Imgburn +daemon tools lite.
.You won't have 36 virtual drives only 4 that is the only drawback.By the Alcohol offers a lifetime licence .
Also JkDefrag is very good defrag tool and is free, version 4 is on it's way with many improvments.
As RejZoR pointed out there are good free alternatives to almost every commercial product.
In the end use what you want, don't have to explain yourself.

There is even alternative for Alcohol 120%.
It's called Alcohol 52%. It can make CD/DVD images, for burning these images just use ImgBurn. Both are free. For data CD/DVD you can use Ashampoo Burning Studio, CDBurnerXP or BurnAware. I haven't touched Nero for years.
As i said, there are always alternatives. Same applies to security apps.
You just have to look for them.

    Who cares
Still there are a lot of software which cannot be replaced by free alternatives. For instance, Sony Vegas, or Visual Studio(there is a free version but real programmers would need the features of the full version).

To reply on topic i think it's started with the war agains malware :) .Mostly malware uses this technique and it's possible to counter it with generic detection as Stefan wrote, and mostly those who use warez will be afected.
