SAS In Action Video Review

This guy from Removemalware.com does some awesome real time reviews. Check out his results for SAS.

I watched it the other day. It destroyed everything.
I also heard that Sunbelt had asked Mrizos(the author of those videos) to review VIPRE.

 

Watch his video on NOD32. I did very poor.

 

Yeah I watched most of his latest videos. NOD32 missed most of the spyware samples. NOD32 is not good at detecting spyware.

 

Matt videos are really awesome cause you get to see a program in real time and how effective it is in removing the nasty's. See if he does NIS 2009 cause he already rates NIS 2008 5 stars.

 

Yeah, but the threats are very few viruses, There are mainly spyware and rouges.

Full version only adds real time protection. Detection levels are the same.

 

Too bad he got those BSOD's... according to Nick that shouldn't happen anymore, and it also happened in safe mode...
I do believe he was mistaken when he said that "paid version will also cause those BSOD"... I don't think so, because the whole point of real time protection is to block malware before it goes deep in your system... Maybe if the real-time involves some constant backround scanning, and the infection is already there, then it could happen. I don't know how SAS real-time works.

 

Thanks for that. Maybe the tester is wanting to see how many threats actually install with real-time protection on vs with just running a scan.

In order for him to do that he will need a completely clean machine to start off with. he does the opposite in all his tests. He has a severely infected machine and see how good a program cleans it up.

 

Does he always use the same test bed or is it random infections?

 

He always uses the same VM

 

Watch his other videos. In this one he says there are new infections. You need to watch video 1 -5. He keeps the pc connected so it can keep getting infected with different stuff. Then he disables his network card and tests.

 

I think he has random infections. If you see the SAS review video and the latest VIPRE video. You can see that there are different malware present.

It appears he keeps his PC on outside DMZ, allowing random infections to take over.

 

Yeah, that's what I thought... Not very scientific, but it's close to "real" usage... also fun to watch...

 

How is showing a video different from linking to some VirusTotal results? It's still a small number of samples.
(one or few sample(s) do no tell anything seems be one of the main excuses that people made when their favourite AV/AS fails to detect a threat)

 

Remember that old adage, a picture is worth a thousand words? In that light, those videos are interesting and shows the aggressiveness of what can happen when malware is turned loose on a windows system.

I used to cling to the belief that any malware, including rootkits didn't hold a candle when pitted against viruses in comparison, but they are just as destructive, interruptive, and dangerous as any virus as is evident by now by those many peeps assaulted by such crafted programs as those and many many others.

If that's what you're meaning, I noticed the videos at the above link have a smaller frame size, which makes them easier to view.
