    Got a problem.

Specs: First, I'm not to knowledgeable on computers. Am usining Win XP-SP4, running SBS&D, Ad-Aware, AVG8 free, Spywareblaster 4.1, using IE browser, all updates installed, & am cable connected.

Problem: When I check Spywareblaster status, the following information regarding "Restricted sites" appear: 1."Partially enabled" & 2."1 items have protection disabled".. I don't know how to find which item is disabled. So I click to enable all. All is well for a little while. Then the same problem repeats itself.

I have unistalled Spywareblaster & reinstalled it and enabled full protection again. But same problem persists. Would appreciate any assistance anyone might have to fix the problem.

there are 14 IE items unprotected, and they do show up in red as unticked items in the list, I have tried ticking them one by one and enabling protection, but it reverts even if it gives me the all-clear to start with...
I forget when this problem appeared, about two months ago, I think, and it is common to all three machines I run.... XP SP3 on all of them, and this issue ought to be resolved, as it must be doing SWB's image no good at all while it persists

    XP SP4? no such animal!

Thanks, you're right.. got sp3 not 4. Sorry. Problem showed up again. This time I found "Coolwebsearch(1630) 5starvidios.com" was unchecked. Checked it & re-enabled. Is there something that cause these items to become unchecked?

[Just noticed this is the second thread reporting this problem of CoolWebSearch 5starvideos seemingly getting around SB, so I'm repeating here my response on the other thread (sorry for the duplication), in case people tune in or reply here rather than there.]

I seem to have the exact same problem. I update SB daily, and for the last few days, I have noticed at boot up that on the "Protection Status" panel, under "Restricted Sites", I had a red message saying protection was disabled for one site. I have been just clicking "enable all protection" the last few times, but it's coming back every day when I boot up. When I carefully combed the list today, the item that was unchecked and red was CoolWebSearch, 5starvideos. (it would be nice if SB put red items at the top, or made the list sortable, so I wouldn't have to scroll forever).

The only new thing I can think of that coincides with the problem is my installation of Google Chrome. I usually use Firefox (with NoScript) -- could it be that this problem is getting in through Chrome? I have uninstalled and am using Firefox, just to see how things go the next few days.

Anyone have any idea where this is coming from?

For information, I use the following:

    Spybot Search & Destroy
    SpywareBlaster
    SpywareGuard
    ZoneAlarm Firewall and Anti-Virus
    all on Windows XP SP2

I just got a repeat of the problem again. I have not added anything and haven't determined any thing I do that might cause this. Updating SB doesn't seem the effect it. I did run a check with AVG8,(system was clean) & noticed its reappearance after the check's completion. Cleared it again (Coolwebsearch[1630]5starvidio.com) and did a SBS&D check, (system clean) and no reappearance of the problem. Hope someone comes up with a remedy to the problem.

I've had the same problem with the same entry. Opening Spybot and clicking the immunize shield on the main pane seems to do it.

I tried it with both program panes open, and it wasn't untill i closed SB and then opened it again that it showed as
    having one item disabled.

Been doing some experimenting as to when (Coolwebsearch(1630) [5starvidios.com] shows up.

It seems there is some connection between Spybot Search & Destroy & SpywareBalaster.

When I immunize SBS&D this somehow triggers the checked box in SWB to become unchecked & alerting that the protection is disabled for that item. I did this several times to confirm that this is what was happening.

Anyway, this is one of the things that seems to do it. There might be others, but this is what I found so far.

A few minutes ago I downloaded this week's S&D update and immunized
only to see SB show the same 1 unprotected CWS file - Then Regwatcher
popped up an alert and asked if I wanted to allow SB to protect 5starvideos
    - I accepted the protection 'against' 5starvideos.

As you say - it appears to be some cross conflict between the S&D immunize and SB re. that one item - but how to sort it is another question.

To expand on that Spybot Forum link - the response from Spybot says:

We have removed the domain (5starvidios.com) because it is dead.
The domain is set to undo because it does not make any sense to block a dead domain.

Probably it will change it's owner and {may not be} bad anymore then. But we will check this then.

So Team Spybot are saying it is SpywareBlaster that is out of date and needs to remove the restricted sites entry for Coolwebsearch (1630) 5starvidios.com - this will restore compatibility.

Hello again from me! I am very happy to say that a recent update has fixed this problem. I do not have Spybot S&D installed on my machines any longer, as it was slowing them down considerably, but Spywareblaster is a good and useful tool, so I have kept that. So, whatever it was that was causing the 14 unticked entries to keep re-appearing, has now been solved! Thank you to whoever it is that has the difficult task of fixing stuff like this.

Several updates for the resident modules of Spybot v1.6 have been released in the last month (SDHelper & Teatimer) - which appear to have eliminated all the slowdown issues. Many users opted not to install these resident modules of Spybot while these issues were resolved - which also eliminated any slowdown issues - while not compromising the scanning and spyware removal abilities.
