VirusInfo Test Results

Yes, its included in VirusTotal. Its listed as "Sunbelt".

 

I'm not sure if it's VIPRE. Actually I think it's "only" Counterspy.

It states as Sunbelt Software (Antivirus) , so I am assuming its VIPRE and not Counterspy.
Plus VirusInfo (http://virusinfo.info/index.php?page=testseng) clearly states that:

As far as I remember, Sunbelt has been participating in VirusInfo's tests for quite some time now, and VIPRE is a pretty new product on the market, AND the fact that VirusInfo still using NOD32v2 in their tests, whilst version 3 have been out for about a year now, AND if it's true what pykko writes in reply #22, about the version they use for Symantec's products, I think it's only fair to believe that it's "only" CounterSpy they are using for their tests.

Well, VirusTotal uses scanners that the AV vendors provide it, usually free of cost.
Now every vendors may not see monetary benefit in this and so either don't participate or don't update their products. That's their choice.

But from the evidence provided in my earlier post, Sunbelt itself has volunteered to provide VIPRE scanner to VirusTotal for increased samples.
So there is no 'believe' in this case, its fact (as per sunbelt blog) that VIPRE is in VirusTotal.

 

is there a nice review for vipre? i want to try that antivirus.

 

How about we clear it up 100%.... I'll ask Nick (the guy who writes the test reports) when he is next online which sunbelt program is being used.

Personally, I look at my own experience, AV-Comparitives, and CastleCops real new malware sample detection rates from the online scanners. My KIS does better there.

Hint for the future: Keep a eye on Avast. It is getting ready to make a huge leap.

i just realize lately that nod32 is weakening its hold it the top of antivirus products. yeah it's light on system resources but it can't protect you alone. you will still need another product plus they respond slow to malware outbreak.

I maybe could be wrong here but i think that eset is responding slow because they released this year a product with firewall, antispam, antispyware, and some more new features, that's why they can't respond fast to malware because these days it's not only malware that is concern.

 

Yeah, that's apparently why they've released just 35 definition updates in 12 days. That completely sucks, such slackers...

I personally am getting tired of all these flawed, nonsensical AV and FW tests.

 

I got tired long time ago, then picked the one that worked best for me and couldn't be happier.

 

it's amazing how "tests" are so looked down on when they don't support your point of view.. but when they do. watch out as people tell the world and gloat over the test.

Actually, VirusInfo tests use VirusTotal. Which as NAMOR, pointed out still uses Symantec Endpoint 10.
Also VirusTotal still uses Nod32 v2.

So the tests can't be fully applied to both of them.

So .. as a Avira user now you are telling the world and gloating over tests? I don't simply care about tests because they don't simply have any effect to my world in any way.

Could you answer honestly to this: Would you switch an AV or start doubting it's reliability if your products would start scoring low in tests & reviews. But it's the product you like the most and it's most suitable for you?

 

I would wait for a consistent pattern or a downward spiral and then switch but so far, Avira has shown a remarkable consistency to stay on top and I doubt they would withdraw from the tests if their AV fails
