his point is not invalid because all other browsers can at least operate inside a 3rd party sandbox to cover the deficiency of non-sandboxed plugins... chrome can't...

Thats because sandboxes are not capable of running the child processes chrome creates.

I'm sure sandboxes will get updates soon enough.

    Hi,

Just installed the DW 2.45 patch (2.46 will have it default). Chrome version 0.2.152 will run (and install okay). Latest Chrome gave an installation error. Seems to be a Chrome issue on XP (even with DW disables I got the message).

i'm not convinced... since when does a web browser need to do something so special that sandbox vendors haven't seen it before? and does it (as the sandboxie thread referenced earlier suggests) actually need to load a kernel driver outside of the sandbox in order to make it work? it seems like chrome is asking for more low level system access than a browser should need...

I don't think many sandboxes are prepared to handle loads of child process create/destroys(which no browser and very few applications have ever done before)

I'm not sure if Chromium uses a kernel driver too or not? I do know that chrome has a lot of dependencies:

    -Webkit
    -V8
    -Gears
    -cygwin
    -icu38
    -python
    -svn

    Probably some more i missed

    EDIT:

The google chrome installer also installs googleupdater which chrome doesn't actually need at all

Google Earth installs Google updater also. It is installed on my PC. in my uneducated mind, this is better than checking the app (Google Earth) every so often for updates. So might be the thinking for Chrome.

Re: Is starting Chrome Project good or bad?

Probably not-but obviously the real reasons are elsewhere

To increase Googles general visibility and recognition

To preserve and increase its dominance in the Search Engine market-the source of most of its revenue.

Re: Chrome is a security nightmare

In the bug-reports about this google staff mentioned that this is a feature and not a bug. The data is only accessable localy and for a multi-user system the incognito function is available.

That basically means that i want a version of chromium that uses incognito by default and normal tabs when i choose to use them.

The feature does have some bugs that they wil fix (images and thumbnails are cached too and these should not be, only text)

Suggest anyone who wants to uninstall uses a proprietary uninstaller, like Z Soft or Revio,as there are a lot of files and reg. entries normally left over, both in Chrome and Chromium.

I've just updated from 'About Google Chrome'. It's faster than ever.

Chrome till date keeps crashing when I try and access Options or import bookmarks. I have no reason why. I am on the latest version updated from about:chrome. It could probably be my DEP but I don't get any warnings and I am not turning DEP off. If Opera works with DEP, so should Chrome.

Why don't you let them know about it? After all this is the idea behind a beta version.

the reason its crashing is because you are using a 64bit os. The bug is known and it is being worked on but a patch has not yet been submitted to the SVN.

In your case you will have to wait

You can report bugs manually here:
    http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/list

the problem has nothing to do with DEP so you don't have to touch that

    Did you uncheck:
    -Help make chromium better....
    -show suggestions.....
    -Use DNS pre-.....
    -Enable phising and.....

If all are YES check the buglist and report or confirm

    tetsuo,

Many thanks.......I had my suspicion about Chrome being not ready for x64 but its surprising as more and more PC are coming with Vista x64 and x64 OS has really taken off.
