    Hi dja2k,

The level of your signature DB can be viewed from the options screen. Other than the quantity level (guage) there is a list of the most recent signatures added to the DB. When there is no list there this does not mean that your DB has to be synchronized from scratch. This list will just disappear when DS has been turned off and on again.

when alerted to Synchronize your DB, this will not download the whole DB again, only any additional signatures which have been added.

    thanks

    Kate.

    Hi again Ian!!

I need some further details from you if you dont mind so that i can get QA to try and recreate and pinpoint if there is a problem here...

Please could you let me know the OS of the PC's in which DS prevents automatic standby, and also the specific standby options selected.

    thanks

    kate.:D

    Hi Ian,

the QA team have been looking into this already. They have found that if you get a manual DS popup which requires your authorization before a write is allowed to take place, this will stall the timed standby mode, and when this popup is allowed or denied the timer for standby will reset.

Let me know your thoughts on this.

    thanks

    Kate.

    Kate,

I think the standby problem was one of those anomalies one sees with XP!

Although I had auto standby working after shutting down DS I now can't replicate it on either laptop.

    Manual standby works fine.

My thinking is that something is unduly using too much processing power which on the laptops is enough to stop standby.

Having sat watching that Oscar winning film, ProcessExplorer, I now think it is may be an Avira process that is the culprit.

    Thanks,
    Ian

Hi, I hadn't yet tried DS, I need a compatible software fw - freeware - because my KIS is not. Someone can help me ? May be Comodo fw if I disable his HIPS features ? Or what ? :)

    DS Failed to start..

    Hi Katie,
I installed DS about 1 1/2 hours ago on XP Pro w/SP3. System resides on C drive. DS is installed on E drive. Did a scan of my system and all was ok.
Left the pc running and when I came back to it I brought it out of system standby.
When the pc woke up, DS failed to start.
I went to Start>All Programs and tried to start DS that way but it failed.
I had removed Avira Personal Classic free and Threatfire prior to installing DS.
I do still have Geswall and Harden-it and the Windows XP Pro firewall.
I checked the logs for GW and nothing shows in regards to DS.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

DS is a HIPS. Comodo PFW includes a HIPS (Defense+). You are already using KIS -- which has its OWN integral HIPS -- so why not use the KIS HIPS you already have?

By the way, this topic is mostly for people already using DS, & who are seeking Katie's counsel (Katie is a representative of DS). You might get more answers about DS competitors if you start a new thread. ;)

    Hello Katie,

I have been attempting to scan with DriveSentry and have an issue.

When scanning individual files and folders, no issues.
When scanning C:/drive or All Drives, scan is interrupted. Reason: Could not connect to Advisor the disk scan will be stopped.

It doesn't matter if I am connected to the internet or not, I get the error while large scale scanning.

    Current DS version: 3.1.2.5
    Windows XP Professional SP3

    BellaGamin, thanks, but:

    - I'm seeking Katie's counsel ( about which fw runs under DS ).

    - I know that KIS ( also disabling his HIPS features ) doesn't run with DS because he has av also and not only fw + HIPS.

    - No problem to start a new 3D, but why to do a duplicate if this is the main 3D about DS, read by Kate and by users too ? I 'm not searching an HIPS: I want to use DS but I need a fw sw with.
    :doubt:

Katie, when is the new version of GoAnywhere released?

currently using the beta, but id prefer a released version, dont like encrypting and protecting my sensitive data on a beta.

luckily i have a backup and only using my usb on my machine and being cautious too......

    so, when? :)

    Hello,

It has become quiet regarding DriveSentry. I check the forum and there are no new entries since May. The Blog on the other hand has an entry for late August.

I have some issues regarding DS but was waiting to see if there were any signs of life first. So far nothing.

Well the problem is I have set a password for DS. It worked fine for a few times, but now I can access everything without password imput. It occured after a syncronize update, so I wondered if that is the reason for this issue.
I don't feel safe that the password mechanism has been damaged, leaving the functions accessable.

    P.S.
I have used Google to see if there has been an accident or new news regarding John Safa, the blog seems to be the latest info. Maybe he has gone on retreat, The Safa Center

    Hi Searching,

im sorry that you are having problems with your password.

    Try creating a new password:

    1) select the password row in the options screen-> enter old password and nothing in the new password boxes. Select OK so you now have no registered password. Then create a new password.

Let me know if this does not work.

    thanks,

    Kate.

    Katie,
Hi. I installed from the DS web site. I don't know the V. # but it was downloaded and installed on 9/2/08 and removed the same day.
    Thanks .

    Hello Katie,

I think the issue I'm having isn't related to your software.
I think it may be due to some type of infiltration (user error).
My gui seems to be changing as if it is switched but only while connected to the internet. I believe that maybe COM or DCOM is involved somehow. It's a little bit above my head. I could also be incorrect in my assumptions.

Does DS scan the DCOM list in components for malware entries?

I have two suspect entries so far, 1 related to Trymedia and another either Trymedia or Wine/mplayer2. Since I don't use Linux it's probably not Wine unless a VM is involved. I checked some of the suspicious AppId's on google, though not an exact method.

Funny thing about asking questions about COM and malware, I get crickets.

    Hello,

Your suggestion about fixing the password seems to have cleared the issue.
I had to disable DS during an already initiated install of a program.
I believe this may have caused the issue.

I still receive an error while scanning all disks with DS stating: Can not connect to Advisor disk scan will be stopped.

    Happy holiday,

    Searching_ _ _

    P.S.
I installed A2 anti malware and there was not a peep out of DS.

    Hi Searching

After some major work on the Advisor server, this loss of connection should no longer be a problem, so you should not recieve any errors during scanning.

please remember to ensure that your local DB is fully up-to-date before beginning a scan.

    kind regards,

    Kate.

    Hi hyatt69,

Thanks for the PM. I will pass your email on to our QA department and get them to contact you with further details.

Just need to clarify that you will only be prompted for a password when trying to access the GUI from the InfoBar window or from the DS icon in the task tray. When the main GUI is open on your desktop you will not be prompted for your secure password.

Minimize the GUI to the InfoBar or the task tray icon in order to be prompted for your password.

    thanks again,

    kind regards,

    Kate. :D

    Hello Katie,
will the go anywhere version protect me when using a limited user account at college?
it would be nice to use it to stop malware from entering my usb flash drive.
    thanks in advance

    Hi lodore....

Drivesentry GoAnywhere requires admin rights in order to run its antivirus protection from your USB flash drive. However, Drivesentry GoAnywhere 2 (pre-release) also boasts high level encryption which can be used without admin rights. This can be used to encrypt files on your USB device and the system of which it is attached.

    I hope this helps.

    kind regards,

    Kate.
