Returnil Premium or Sandboxie, to virtualize the Web surfing.:)

    NOW:
    -----
    Hardening: Blkviper Service pruning + Xp-Antispy + Harden-IT + DCOmbulator + killbits from Spywareblaster & Spybot Search & Destroy

FW: Look'n'Stop with ARP and Edit Raw Rule plugins using Phant0m ruleset (because it eats little cpu/mem/network speed, which I like)

AV: Eset 3.0 (because for me it's been a set/forget, no problems, no conflicts, no crashes, no bugs and very small system performance hit)

Browser: Firefox through Proxomitron with Sidki ruleset and personal filters. Noscript add-on for some sites.

AM: Windows Defender with SpyNet (testing based on recommendations)

On-demand: SuperAntispyware + Ewido Micro + Avira Antivir free

    CONSIDERING:
    -------------

FW: Jetico v2 (due to it's performance and acceptable performance hit)

AV: Avira Antivir Premium (my NOD32 license is coming up, want to trial others before deciding)

Browser: no changes - keep upgrading filters

AM: I'll see what happens with Windows Defender. May be surpassed by HIPS

HIPS: Undecided... Looking at all the options. Can't trial them all (no time). Need something robust (no bugs, no conflicts) and fairly non-intrusive (not a gazillion of pop-ups)

On-Demand: AVK2009 (it's combination engines look like they are performing well and would probably complement Avira)

PS. I find it much more useful, if people try to open up their criteria for using each program WITHOUT resorting to "x is better than y" comparisons :)

If you use KIS on real time you don't need to install an HIPS program and a firewall, without any big resource usage.:)

Thanks. I won't touch any Kaspersky product myself with a ten foot pole. I know many love them. I wish I could :) (my personal reasons through search engine, I don't want to start Kaspersky fight here).

I'm also a believer in layered and non-single-point of failure type security. But for me personally there is also a trade-off in security setup and time/money/effort/learning used. Something that works fairly well, but doesn't consume all of my time/money/nerves :)

My setup has been running well now for years with some tweaks, but it has -imho - become outdated in terms of many 'newer' attack/exploit types that are now way too prevalent for my personal comfort.

That's why I'm considering changing. YMMV.

Lol, well, then you should use a behaviour blocker like Mamutu($$) or ThreatFire(free) and you can replace Ewido with MalwareBytes Anti malware

FW: why not considering COMODO ?

    Browser: and about Opera ?

    On demand: A-Squared2 + SuperAntispyware ( freeware eventually )

HIPS: I would suggest to you SSM: true that it has not again file protection ( coming ) but it's hard and flexible.

    - SandBoxie or Returnil ?

I noticed slowdown only if Web Traffic protection was set to max.

ThreatFire - considering, but the Symantec buy-out of PCTools leaves me sitting on the fence for now (been burnt twice in a similar situation earlier). Looking into Matumu as well, thanks. SSM is on the list as well.

Comodo FW - running on my laptop, I like it. Kills network perf more than I like, which is _my_ preference. That's why I'm looking into Jetico. They are both good, imho.

Opera - I run Opera 9.x series as my 2ndary. I like firefox with it's extensions better for my needs. Still, Opera is great. I've been using it since the very early days and was a paid customer.

A-Squared2 - tried this, but uninstalled for some reason (maybe FPs, can't remember). I wish somebody still tested a combination of different on-demand scanners against known malware, but I know it's a huge amount of work. I could of course install, manually update and regularly scan with all the free antimalware apps, but for me - that gets tedious quite quickly. I can run c. 2-3 or so myself. YMMV

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

    You can read this http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-adware-spyware-scumware-remover.htm
I would suggest using MalwareBytes Anti-Malware rather than Asquared

i think if you have drivesentry you dont need avira and you also dont need process guard, cause Drivesentry is a stand alone anti/virus/spyware/hips
    all in one.
    Online Armor V3 (Paid Version)
    Drive Sentry (Paid Version)
    SuperAntiSpyware Pro (Paid Version)

this is good enough plus comon sense

Personally I wouldn't pick DriveSentry over Avira for Antivirus coverage.

BabysBullet68, all you need if you buy are these:
    Avira AntiVir Premium (Paid Version)
    Online Armor V3 (Paid Version)
    SuperAntiSpyware Pro (Paid Version)

Avira and SuperAntispyware complement each other in the Spyware department very well. If anything passes Avira in spyware, SuperAntispyware will catch it.

Even if you don't buy them for a minimum setup, these are okay too:
Avira AntiVir Personal Classic (Free Version)
    Online Armor V3 (Free Version)
    SuperAntiSpyware Pro (Free Version)

You don't need ProcessGuard while running Online Armor and you don't need A-Squared while having SuperAntispyware.
