Don't know... in any case (IMO), you should not change your product just because of an ad-hoc leak test designed to market a specific X product.

People put Way to much faith into leak tests and not what the product like ZA actually does. I love ZA Firewall and always will its not a nag fest or a babysitter program like some firewalls I know.

I had just pestered them a few days ago about updates and they wouldn't say anything about the release.

I've got 4 months or so on ZAAV 7.1.248.000, so will probably wait awhile. V8 is not showing up as an update yet when I check for updates. It might not, though, being a version change.

I didn't say I was changing. I was just curious. I've been deciding on a firewal.

If you have a valid ZAAV subscription. I think you can download ZAAV 2009 and use same key.

Looks like ZA opened the auto-update floodgates and bummed themselves out !!
    Their site is down.

But they have a very funny message posted. :D

I am not convinced that ZAAV 2009 is different than what I am running (yet).

Sure, but from what I read from the ZA forum. The component versions as of ZASS ver.8.0.0.015 is :

    TrueVector version:8.0.015.000
    Driver version:8.0.015.000
    Anti-virus engine version:6.0.2.678
    Anti-spyware engine version:5.0.202.0
    AntiSpam version:5.0.61.9957

So if you are not running a lower version of any of these components, you may want to upgrade.

Updated AV kernel drivers, better boot up performance (e.g. tuning of zclient memory use), stronger OSfirewall, faster AV scans.

Indeed not a radical product change but worth the move.

Better to wait for the automatic update to come. It is not active. This is done to ensure a smooth upgrade and to avoid any disruption in case of major unexpected issues....

    Cheers,

The free version is an extremely small download compared to previous versions- 205 kb. Does anyone know if the free version still downloads that mailfrontier crap? Also, is anyone using this on Vista without problems?

I decided to go ahead and download and install ZAAV V8. Not enough chaos and excitement in my life currently, I guess. In any case, I will post back with anything I find of interest.

So far it all looks pretty good.

I installed the FREE version of ZA and it seems to be running good so far :)

UPDATE: Removed the free ZA. It caused some freezing issue with my Virtualbox.

I will stick with the Vista Firewall.

Runs awesome here.. running it for mainly outbound protection but I shut off Nat and Firewall on the router and let GRC Shields up hit it and it passed with flying colors no slowdowns and no hiccups as I can see right now.

What does that have to do with "ZoneAlarm 2009 Products released"?
