    Hi,
Since I have seen other youtube videos featured on this forum, I thought I would share the one I made with you.

You have probably heard about software tools that offer free scanning of your PC and reports fake errors to make you buy the product. Well, we wanted to actually see if this is the case, and decided to test one; PC Doc Pro. Here's the result: http://www.mywot.com/en/online-threats/fraudulentsite or at youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4ubAP62ero

I hope you like it. Our idea is to show scam sites, spyware, malware, etc., and what it can do to your computer.

Wouldn't most aggressive reg cleaners find heaps of entries on a clean istall?

Comes up clean at Virus Total and I did upload the PC Doc Pro.exe to Malwarebytes a coupla days ago.

Will leave it up to the experts to ascertain PC Doc Pro's status here.

Below are screenies of four different reg cleaners of this cleanish Vista install where no programs have been uninstalled.

I must say that if I install XP, install my apps and then run RegSupreme, it finds ober 1500 reg errors. On most scans if finds about 1000!

When I first saw this, I thought it was Anti Spyware stuff, as there have been some rogue programs.

But in this case, I think the PC Doc Pro Lies, is a senstationalist title, and not quite accurate. This program is a registry cleaner, and yes it's very aggressive, but that is different.

I think the video is very misleading, in that it leads the viewer to believe that on a clean windows install nothing should be found.

Well I just did a clean Vista Ultimate install in a new VM machine. Then I tested RegsupremePro, which I use, CCleaner, Amust Registry Cleaner, PC Doc Pro, and Max Registry cleaner. To different degree's they all found stuff in the registry that could be removed.

I think the group behind this could do a valuable service, but not with testing like this. Disappointing.

I completely agree, the video keeps talking about problems which are basically harmless registry entries. If I set my RegSupreme Pro to aggressive level it will probably find 500 problems, whereas with a normal scan (always my choice) it finds 70-90 entries which could be deleted.

I really can't see anything wrong with that program.

In my experience even after a clean install of windows there is always left over crap.IMO windows registry sucks at being tidy. Any registry cleaner will find lots of crap to clean even after a clean install but a good reg cleaner should clean safely and have back up that will work if needed and should not duplicate the same problems once its clean.

Thank you for the compliments and comments, guys.

I see Peter and Osaban's point. Our idea is to inform people who are not necessarily well-versed in security to be careful when choosing which tools to use. Rogue applications have been developed to mislead uninformed computer users into downloading and paying for the “full” version, based on the false positives generated by the application, and this is just one example.

We will continue to produce videos showing what malware, spyware, etc., can do, and I will strive to present our experiences in a fair, truthful way (with a little drama and swelling music thrown in for the "fun factor").

    Hi Deborah

Just be careful. I wouldn't consider PC Doc Pro a rogue program as we define them. It may be an overly aggressive registry cleaner. Also be sure the test is fair. Your test implies it shouldn't find anything on a clean windows install, and that just isn't the case. I wouldn't blame them if they came after you legally on that video.

i admire brave people as Deborah for making consumers aware of such programs whose developers all what they want is money and scare the inocents,it happens to one of my friends she was told that she was infected
with x malware and the only way to get rid of the malware infection was to provide her credit card for removal, guest what she did indeed provide with her crdit card number and she lost her money and malware was still present,
now i advice to use spybot and for free did the job:thumb:
peter they dont claim to be a registry cleaner the are antispyware program,
and it is very how can i say this "non sense" to imagine that you get a fresh copy of windows and you are infected ,maybe microsoft infected Deborah
what a joke.get real this kind of companies all they want is money, green bucks and we all know it.now Deborah keep doing what you are doing but becaurefull of acusing people even if you are correct.any way we as people
have the legal rigth to come againts them with proof whan they claim that you are infected when you are not.thats a rogue program .:thumbd:

I just took another look at their website. When you google it, it comes up as a registry cleaner. Their website talks about repair. No where did I see the word antispyware. Sorry, you are going to have to show me.

I'd agree you should not have spyware and a clean windows install, but I did a clean install and all registry cleaners found stuff.

I had a look at their website, and admittedly they have a way to advertise their product that is becoming quite popular nowadays, often referred to FUD. I personally don't like it, and would steer away from these products when they are so aggressively promoted.

On the other hand the application is a registry cleaner, which has nothing to do with malware. Deborah talks about 'false positives' which doesn't apply to registry cleaners at all. Entries flagged by these applications are at best useless stuff produced by the Windows registry in a normal working situation (more of these entries are found after uninstalling programs). Sometimes they flag even entries that could still be active with some programs, and that could have some unpleasant consequences without any backup.

I still think that they cannot be labeled as rogue on account of their selling strategy.

I thinks Deborah ment well and she has a few valid findings Why? $29.95 for only thirty days as she said that can't be correct. It also finds 31 severity registry problems.AS as said prior windows is not tidy even after fresh formatts but why would a Geniune MS product leave severe registry problems. So the only conclusion I can Draw is either MS has severe issues when building the registry or Doc Pro lies, I tend to believe the latter.

Well after installing from the CD, there were only a few issues found by all the cleaners I tried. But after Windows Update, it was very different.

Also I didn't clean the registry to see what effects were had.

I don't think even aggressive cleaners are the same as rogue anti Spyware stuff.

Its an aggresive registry cleaner and "junk remover",probably OK at what its claimed to do.

However in my opinion the various marketing blurbs are downright misleading, especially when viewed by inexperienced users.
Possibly in my country they could be sued for misleading advertising.

Suggest in this type of situation,Deborah and associates should concentrate on criticizing the marketing angle-rather than the product itself.

I just installed MS Business Contact Manager and ran RegSupreme and it found 6621 bad reg entries! Hardly think its a rogue app tho!
