Does Super AntiSpyware really do all that???

I get called a lot by friends and rels to get rid of spyware. I should open a business. Anyway, I have an arsenal of free/shareware progs (like SpyBot) I run on systems to clean them up. Bro-in-law now has been bitten by "AntiSpyware 2009" (rogue AS fake out) and is calling for assistance. I've tried removing this one before and it wasn't easy. I feel I need something "industrial strength" now.

Looking through some of the latest info, I see Super AntiSpyware claims to be the "be all and end all" program. I'm skeptical of this claim as marketing hype.

Do the experts here feel SAS is worth the $$$ for these kinds of infections. I want to be sure my "customers" get pointed in the right direction (and in order to avoid the 10:30 pm phone tearful phone call... )

If you need only cleaning and no realtime protection, the free version of SAS will be sufficient.

But IMHO, the SAS license is a steal at that price: pay once and get all updates and upgrades. So I'd suggest your friends get the SAS lifetime license and save you some trouble.

To top it up, I suggest installing MBAM free alongside SAS for the occasional cross-check. Spybot and Ad-Aware are seriously overrated IMHO, but that's probably just because they've been around such a long time.

 

i have used sas to clean quite alot of infected machines and it always delivers the goods.
if it doesnt detect a threat you can start a support ticket and they will help you remove you.

Just recommended a friend install the lifetime version with free avira. It's one of the first to remove problem 'installations' many AVs just don't detect.

 

SAS Pro is on my very short list of must haves. The developers(s) are 'on it', the program is excellent anti-malware. As has been stated, it is indeed the goods. A lifetime license for $19.95 gives me that 'not ripped off' feelling that I like so much.

In the past 6 months, we have witnessed a handful of renown (correct terms ?) AS applications offering free one year lic full versions. They are good, generally speaking, but not that good enough sometimes for me to accept these generous offers.

If SAS's shelf life (lasted until acquisition by other rivals) is more than 2 years, then its $ 19.99 lifetime lic is a steal. its pros and cons have been well illustrated here by our members.

At present time, I am using SAS Pro full and MBAM full (using realtime together or alternately), bypassing those goody offers ( A2, spyware doctor, spy sweeper etc. ).

SAS and MBAM are indeed my work horses.

 

My friend's computer got hit by antispyware 2009 a couple months ago, and superantispyware knocked it out without any problems.

 

Just a question, and Nick might be the one to answer it. With purchasing the lifetime subscription, does adding the additional copy mean it also come with a lifetime subscription?

No big deal if it doesn't, an extra $10 for another copy is a good buy.

 

One more vote for SAS. Unlike others, this and MBAM always worked great when cleaning boxes infested with loads of various junk.

 

If your skills allow you remove malware manully, AVZ is your choice.

Well first off if you want an on demand scanner to clean out these infections then SAS free is an absolute steal at that price

Next off if you are meaning that will SAS Pro prevent such *infections* from installing in the first place then that depends on whether the installer and or infection components are known** to the sas target database(as is the case with all blacklist AV's/ASW's/AT's.)

** Please bear in mind that some infections/components are updated very frequently inorder to evade the defenders.For example unless SAS hq have coded a *smart* rule(s) for "AntiSpyware 2009" installer and infection components then there is always a chance that the most recent *variation* will evade the software.

That said i know that both SAS and MBAM aim to update as soon as they gather new samples and appear to update their target databases more quickly then the rest.This is borne out by folks that work with cleaning computers will tell you SAS & MBAM are the 2 that are cutting it


Anyhow should an infection bypass SAS pro and infect then the end user can submit a support request where SAS HQ will follow up by getting user to run there inhouse tool.They will then beable to update there their target database to take care of that infection

Is fair comment Ilya,i know that i can manually rip and repair infections but still like to use a *cleaner* or 2 just to do the bulk of the workload

Don't forget Ilya's suggestion on AVZ too. It updates as frequently as an AV. I been testing this for well over 2 months DAILY! and they seem determined to keep it that way. SAS & MBAM are a great team together. LoL

It's another effective manual utility to first identify then pull out some really ground in dirt even at deep levels.

does avz offer real time protection? I visited the site but could not figure that part out.

 

In the AVZ menu is "enable AVZ guard". I can only venture a guess at this point which isn't worth the paper it might be written on since i have never bothered with it myself. As far as using it as some "resident" guard and running it for that purpose, it may or may not be of some useful protection.

With that being said i'll pass your question over to other members here who just might have experimented with that feature.

I use AVZ only for in-depth analysis and clean-up purposes. And it is somewhat an advanced tool thats useful in many circumstances.

Whatever you do-dont enable AVZGuard-or you will be effectively blocked from using your computer-its not realtime protection but seemingly a very effective lockout device.

No way I could figure to find a solution-nothing worked!

Couldnt find an English Help file-enabled and was locked out of all computer functions
