Using Avira PE Premium with web shield activated and OA3 with the same function enabled may just have caused a few lock-ups on FF3. I've disabled OA web shield for now and will see what happens. Then I'll probably try it vice-versa.

Yes, I know. But I meant a new OA feature, not a mould breaking unique HIPS innovation.

Of course this works, even with with OA 2.1.0.131 and 'Run safer' there is no damage, just this small popup.

Thanks for this screenshot, maybe a good moment to review your system and avoid such.

    Hi Mike,
OK thanks, I have just installed OA 3_162 and noticed reads not alerting.

This screenshot is from a test system with OA Free.
To review that OA passed the test, I backed up the MBR before the test and after the next reboot and compared the MD5 values of the MBR backups.
Of course I restored an image after the test.
And there is no need to avoid anything on a test system in my opinion.

    Cheers

    Hi Mike,

Pleased to hear that you have plans to improve pop-up's. Does this include adding the ability to set endpoint restrictions at the pop-up stage and also adding some form of sorting of the program list.

I have tried turning off the Web Shield. Didn't seem to help much. I'm using NOD32 (in V. 3.0.669.0), which also does web filtering (seems redundant, do you think??). I'm on XP sp 3. Sam

A note of caution on this option. You would have to reverse the action to do any installing.

Possibly as advanced mode features, yes. In standard mode the focus will be firmly on making the popups easier to understand.

Sort of program list you'll have to elaborate on (if you have already on the suggestions thread, dont worry I'll see it)

Even though I had OA in learning mode, it continued to block my connections.

I set the Firewall to log & saw several entries like this..
    ScrHnt1.gif

I found that the culprit was this rule...
    ScrHnt2.gif

    I fixed it as follows...
    ScrHnt3.gif

Now my connections work okay. BUT...
1- Why did this happen in learning mode? I thought that all my actions in that mode were accepted by OA as being trusted. It is a Puzzlement?

2- Why did this happen at all? It's NOT a user-friendly glitch at all. I fixed it but I did so by guess & by golly.

In any event, I can now proceed with further testing of the 3-beta, now that it doesn't block my web connections. It is looking GOOOOOD!:thumb:

I'm getting the same problem that I was getting with the previous build and I'm completely stuck. It happens only when I install OA - I've tried several firewalls and suites in between builds - and it only happens with OA. Whenever I launch any application, it seems as though my PC is straining at the seams, whether watching a film, listening to audio files, launching a browser - even switching between tabs when brosing with either Firefox or IE - anything. It's slow and when listening to audio or watching a film, the whole machine judders and struggles as though I'm using Windows 95 or something.

I've installed/tested NIS2008 and Comodo amongst other suites and firewalls and there's no lag whatsoever. I've tried various settings on OA like disabling Web Shield, but nothing seems to work. I'm totally lost. Any ideas?

    Currently running Vista SP1.

Anyone have ant suggestions? I've asked on the official OA forum but the Vista thread is a bit thin :D

I asked a question about this on OA forum some time ago.

    http://support.tallemu.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=2346

I've always taken it that the Restricted Ports list is applied for Unknown computers but not for Trusted computers. I really wouldn't expect learning mode to affect the computer status setting.

Am I downloading the right build? If not could someone provide a link?
    thanks

PS- I have Vista Home Premium OS

I don't think the free version supports Vista yet. Try the trial version if you want to see how OA looks in Vista.

Yes it does run perfectly well on Vista x32. The download is for the full trial version. After 24 days, it probably reverts to the free version, (without the Web Shield and Mail Shield etc etc).

Yeah, but the question was about the free version, not the trial.

The intent is to make the free version Vista compatible, but the current free version won't run under Vista.

That's the sort of thing that beta testing entails, finding things like that.
