As far as the configuration version, it automatically updates. Program updates... I don't know since I've never updated the program itself.

I will have to keep an eye on the information tab to see if it changes. I haven't heard a lot of news from Norton Antibot. I know AV-Test.org tested Threatfire earlier this year and it had some impressive results. PC Mag thought TF 3.5 was better than NAB.

A good thing about NAB (and its Daddy, Primary Response SafeConnect) is the fact that it has worked well under every security software configuration that I have set up on my system(s). I can't say the same for TF. I know for a fact that TF didn't like SAS Pro whether running real time or on demand. Just switched my wife's rig over to AntiVir Personal, Rising PF Free, BOClean, and NAB. They all get along swimmingly.

    Hi,

you are probably right about NAB, but as far as I am concern, your observation about TF's disliking SAS (real and/or on demand) has my reservation; I am running SAS real time with TF Pro for a good time, never has had any issues/ on WinXp sp3 format. But would like to share your observations thou.

On my XP Pro SP3 machine, they did not play well together. When I tried running TF and SAS Pro with on-access guard enabled, that machine had intermittent freezing and what best can be described as stuttering! When SAS's guard was removed, the same behaviors were present. So, for me, a process of elimination decreed TF the culprit. Upon removing TF and a thorough purging of all of its registry entries, that system returned to its normally smooth and speedy ways. Glad that the combo is working for you though!

Hi, sorry to hear your issues/
I do have a similar one when I run these two together, on A laptop WinXp Home Sp3 with memory 512 MB. But on this newer laptop Centrino duo core 1Gb, WinXP pro sp3, no such issues.

    Perhaps memory capacity related ?

Doubtful. That rig is a 3 GHZ HTP4 w/ 4 MBS of RAM. The two just refuse to coexist on that machine, as well as my wife's 2.8 GHZ HTP4 w/ 2 MBS of RAM running XP Home SP3.

im using right now norton antibot + avg 8.0 + SAS, i feel very secure.

actually im testing my security right now. downloading malicious files and visiting websites known for phising and containing harmful spyware. but avg is preventing me from going to those site. what a protection!!! avg is not letting my norton antibot to work and catch those nasties, avg catches first. ha ha ha.

Hi, pls keep in mind that
AVG 8.0 is a AV + AS, while NAB is a behaviour blocker; two different players play on very different positions/roles in the game. One is defense line, the other is safety. When you got alerts from NAB, a touchdown is few yards away.

Yet another Symantec Norton flop IMHO

I tried this so-called behavioral blocker and it let so many of my sample walk right past that it didn't take long before i quickly uninstalled it.

Old CyberHawk done a much better job then antibot, at least it intercepts, antibot just sat there like a new tray icon decoration.

Conclusion: Wouldn't waste my money on something this bad, and i do mean bad.

What's your take on TF then? I mean it is pretty much CyberHawk, but it has a new team behind it. Is it better then Antibot IYO?

So that means Primary Response SafeConnect is bad too?

    A couple of notes....

    Pros:

+ installs fast and without problems, plus no reboot needed
    + no stupid online/phone activation
+ is not a resource hog
+ doesn't conflict with other security apps
    + uninstall actually works

(definitely all the above should be attributed to the fact that it's actually not written by Symantec :p )

    + very simple configuration

    Cons:

    - fails to remove certain malware or only removes it half-way
    - way too expensive for such a niche app
    - plus really, do you really need to spend money on this? There are free, high-quality alternatives. :doubt:

    Just my $0.02 ;)

Anyone know what is the latest version of Norton AntiBot?

I just wonder if something is wrong with my install. It doesn't seem to have been updated in "ages"...

I don´t think so. ThreatFire is lighter.

Norton AntiBot is light on system resources, although ThreatFire is also light. I don't think one is lighter than the other.

You should also check the CPU times! Go view->select columns->CPU time.

I guess it depends on one's system. Mine doesn't reach as high as yours.
