    Immediately.

The thing is, I can see the NOD32 splash-screen on startup, and the systray icon appears.
But as soon as I move the cursor over the systray icon it disappears.

It's like egui.exe starts up, and then closes?

    Yes.

Do you use other security software except NOD32? Did you have infected computer?

Check eventvwr.msc to see if there is anything logged about why the process terminated. I am guessing that your other active spyware protection products are terminating the process for you.

I'm using Outpost Firewall Pro 2009.

I doubt that anything is infected since the computer is fresh.

SmackyTheFrog , eventvwr gave me nothing useful. (I think?)
I used NOD32 and Outpost together with no problems on my old computer, so I find it very strange if that is the problem.

Is there any way to check why a program is being closed? Or if an other process is closing it?

    Well,
At startup, I can see the tray icon and the status by hovering the mouse on top, but then it shuts down after 3-4 seconds.

After starting it manually there is no problem what so ever.

I'm aware that ekrn.exe is still running, so the protection is not gone.

I just find it very strange, and annoying.

I have now tried reinstalling a newer version of NOD32, but the problem remains.

    Argh!

disabled or, much better, uninstalled all other security program but keep nod32. Reboot. Now, is it ok ? If yes, enabled or re-installed just another one, reboot, is it ok ? Keep trying by enabled or install an other one until you find wich one cause this bug

For me...if the /waitservice is attached to the registry, then I dont get the taskbar icon...so the only way to open up NOD32 is to use the start menu.....if I remove the /waitservice command, then the icon appears after I restart windows
