What PC do you mainly use?

 

Dell laptop, configured according to needs... looking for a replacement after 2 1/2 years...

Yup, nothing to do... finished classes at University this week, turned in my thesis and not starting to work until next week... I've got time to catch new threads

 

I have a "custom built" Dell laptop, which I reconfigured, to shed bloatware, but at the office, I have a true custom built desktop, which I use all day long.

Did you reconfigure the hardware, or just removed the bloatware?

 

If you don't mind me asking, are you an undergrad, grad, or postgrad? What is your major?

Hardware bought by me and built by me

 

I have a Dell 4600 which I had them build to order. The first thing I did was uninstall Norton security suite they gave me for free, and a few more apps I didn't need. After 4 years, with the help of this forum, it's a mean lean machine.

I sold all my desktops and now only use laptops. I mainly use my Dell XPS m1730 running Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

 

Purchased Packard Bell Laptop, with a 200 Euro discount

 

Purchased, built to spec from sites like PC Specialist or Cyberpower for desktops, and standard off the shelf laptops.

 

Home made, I would not trust anynone but me to build it.

 

Purchased, but have made user modifications on some of them. One day I will build. (when I have time)

 

Purchased, from local OEM's "catalog". The only change I've made inside was to add a DVD drive to replace the original CD-ROM one.

 

You can take a vacation, I did, though it did not go well, because of damaged components, so I wasted a week for nothing and then I had to do it in hurry at night and between shifts, but it is a solid PC, so I do not pity it. I built a PC of my dreams, but I will never waste so much money at it again, dream fullfiled.

 

Never had a name brand PC. Started from my first by raiding my brother's and friend's old hardware, then bought upgrades. Just finished my latest build about a month ago.

 

All three home built PCs, one dual core AMD, one Phenom and one quad core, two on ASUS board and one on Intel server 5400XS board. For laptops I have the Panasonic Toughbook.

 

Asus W2P 17" notebook with Vista Ultimate SP1.

 

I think that this poll does not represent a cross section of the PC community. Users of this board tend to have higher than average tech skills, which would make it easier for us to build PCs than it would be for the average end user.

Although I build my home units, at work I buy Dells simply because building a computer is not a cost effective use of my time. It is cheaper for the company for me to go to www.dell.com and get what I need.
