I'm thinking about using McAfee Enterprise on my home pc's. Does anyone have any experience with this a/v? How is it different from the consumer version?

I don't have very much experience on McAfee, BUT i did try out the Enterprise version 8.5i with antispyware and the firewall plugin. It ran very light on my system, so no troubles on that front. Detection vice I really don't know, but I guess it'll be as good as any other AV?!

    Cheers

I've used it before and actually for quite some time before unloading it for Nod/Kav on my boxes. Anywho it's pretty decent, but it takes some actions automatically which i never found out how to stop. IE if it is running a full scan and find a virus it auto quarentines it. I prefer it to ask me what to do as it found some viruses that were not viruses at all just rootkits for a bot of mine.

But i digress, it is solid reliable, i don't like the lack of weekend updates either, but beyond that it rocks.

Ohhh like most AV these days it stalls like a hoe when you try and load any Java app the slowdown while it decompresses the jar files to scan em is amazing, but once it is done scanning the app it's back to smooth sailing again. Ohh and on that topic what I liked about that is, for the real time protection you can give it a maximum scan time. IE if you're downloding let's just say a 1gig jar file and it's taking it's sweet time to decompress it and scan it, well in the option box you can set the max seconds it can scan an object, I had it set to 20 seconds and loved it.

Your school or employer, who I assume is supplying the software, should be able to supply all the help you need. Check the default settings carefully, they are not well chosen.

    Hi,

I have been using it for a long while, during which time I have changed many of my security setup, McAfee VirusScan Ent 8.5i (now with patch6) always stays---no conflict what so ever with other apps.

It is reliable, safe to use. Doubts on its detection/cleaning abilities never has entered my mind. Asking a Grant number from your employer/institution, you are all set. Highly recommended, if you can get a hold of it.
