Sorry will not vote because I think polling for an effective FW could be horribly missleading. Also due to the LT's my bias is too obvious.

But that said, a well configured and tweaked low ranked FW would be better IMHO that a poorly configed or buggy popular one.

I'm a firm believer that anything abandoned should always be gone over with a fine tooth comb.

I have literally run the gambit of many other firewalls and even those with conceptial HIPS integrated into them, and i always return back to KERIO 2.15 rule-based firewall. It's never failed in the many years i turned to it since dropping ZA a long long time ago on Win 98SE.

It's very rare IMHO when a so-called outdated and no longer supported windows 98 security app can stand up strong even against today's newest releases in spite of the hoopla and bells & whistles throwed in.

Kerio 2.15 is my long time firewall of choice thats stood the test of time and still does.

Same here. Kerio has always worked very well on every OS I've used it on, 98 thru XP. No matter what range of dates gets put on the poll, my answer stays the same. I'll stay with it until IPv6 takes over. Hopefully by then, someone will have an open source equivalent ready to go.

I used Comodo until 2005/06, then switched to Sygate Pro. I know it's not supported, but I have been told it is one of the best and is still good enough in this day and age.

I'm on dialup using a fixed wireless cell phone (CDMA) connected to my computer via serial cable. 115200bps max speed, but can't get broadband where I live. No way to hook up a router to something like this..at least I don't think.
