    Anyone else trialling this?

    Few suggestions:
--improve the speed of updates- experienced some delays at times and updates seemed to be the full file rather than incremental (will check beta download build again)
--fixing user interface to refresh updates
--some slowdowns at times with active protection (could be while using sandboxie, or maybe another program)

From what I've read, beta users have identified these in the forums which developers are taking note of.

    Good points
++solid program while still in beta stage (no crashes)
++the 'secure file eraser' and 'pcexplorer' are worthwhile tools. Allow a user to do away with a stand-alone application performing the same function.
++No problems experienced with on-demand scan speed
++Performs a boot scan if threats are detected (as mentioned previously, installed on a friend's system and boot scan detected and removed a severe trojan which was causing connection slowdowns)
++appealing user interface and design (along with the logo and intended packaging/promotion)

Looks to be a good AV/AS program. Other information on VIPRE.

I just gave a try on this new antimalware.
It performs really good for a beta.
Great interface, very easy to manage and configure, even for novices.
The only drowback is when you open a folder with lots of exes. The window freezes for a while.

    Seems promissing. :thumb:

It is definitely an appealing program. If the glitches with the main interface can be fixed, and any conflicts/slowdowns, I think it will be worth the small investment.

Also, I wouldn't mind the interface loading a bit quicker once the icon is double-clicked. Has a slight delay like Avira now does.

Thanks for the link. By the way:

"Sunbelt Software is pleased to announce that beta 10 (build 2242) for VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware 3.0 is now available for download (12.9 mb)"

This quote is from the Sunbelt forum. I'm currently running this build on XP SP2 - it's very stable and fast (the previous build was too). I've only had one issue so far, which was a FP on a FireFox 3 file - xul.dll was incorrectly identified as a porn dialer and quarantined (FireFox won't run without it).

Yes that is fixed already. Sorry for that, someone added a signature for a porn dialer and exactly the same signature was present in the firefox dll (Firefox checks some basic stuff as well for suspicious internet url's)

Based on that (because the DLL gets loaded by firefox so the previous process owner is Firefox itself) Firefox got blocked too. That's already fixed.

this is definatly getting better and better.
it blocked process explorer from starting and i had to click yes on two prompts to get it to lanch properly.
    a white list might help.

Good to know it's already fixed. At the time I just restored the file from the quarantined list and changed it's status to always allow, so it wasn't problem.

    Beta <10> ?

I think it's just sad that Sunbelt had all or most of their beta testing done by 'the public'.

No wonder it's taking this long.

To paraphrase Sunbelt (I'll use quotes, but I'm really paraphrasing):
"Unlike some other companies who have created their final release and then have it tested as a beta by the public, this is really a raw beta, and you can expect errors, crashes, and the program should not be used in an environment in which this is unacceptable".

Yes, well that's what a beta is. What's wrong with it?

It seems that every company goes about the testing process a little differently, but generally you have:
non public testing of Alpha builds
non public testing of Beta builds
    public testing of Beta builds
    public testing of Release Candidates
    Release!

Regarding how long the process takes, I think having a public beta test phase is a good idea because it subjects the software to many more variables then can be created by a small group "in house". Without a public beta phase it's more likely that serious issues will be discovered after the software is released. Beta software always includes a disclaimer that it may trash the system and the user better know what he's doing, and that's appropriate. The downside is you have to put up with knowing there's great software coming, but you don't know when
