Thank you for your advice...I'll think about it. I'm just wondering if the management console would be of any help in the solution I described in my posts ..

by the way: will I be able to restore a workstation (entire disk) thru the LAN using the rescue disk? or I'll have to copy the image , say in a USB portable 2.5" hard disk and then restore from it o_O

    Hello aries58net,

    Many thanks for your reply.

Acronis True Image 11 Home bootable CD supports wired networks so you should be able to restore the image which is stored in any shared folder.

    Thank you

    thanks nikita

I'm just planning if it 'll be more convenient to adopt true image echo workstation 9.5 . May be in a not so far future I 'll need to centralize through the managemant console and more stuff. all in all the price difference is quite little (or I 'll be able to see the jobs now thru the management console ,according to my method....and what about universal restore o_O?)

    TIA

    I'll try to better explain:

I think it would be better to use true image echo workstation even if I will install the main program to each workstations I need to backup or create an image to the shared folder on the NAS, because, all in all, it'll be on a small enterprise and who kfnows about the future if I'll need some more features that the above mentioned packages have and the home version, instead, have noto_O.
As I said before the price difference is not dramatic!!

It would be nice of you if you tell me what you think about it

    TIA

    Part 1
    ------

I share the same frustration as TIA. The User Guide is totally unclear as to what software is supposed to be installed on what computers.

The configuration I want to support is:

    1) Main workstation (mine) running WXP SP2 Pro
    2) Other workstation (significant other's) running WXP SP2 Home
    3) Laptop running WXP SP2 Home

My goal is to backup everything to an external disk attached to 1). I would like to do a full backup once a week (staggered by system), incrementals every night. Nothing fancy...

So, what software runs where? I would have expected that all the software runs only 1) except for the TI Agent which runs only on 2) and 3). I am gathering that this is wrong, based on discussions in this thread but nowhere is this kind of BIG PICTURE overview provided in the the User Guide or the Acronis website. So, can you please answer the question? Or point to something that does?

    Part II
    ------

I now have the trial version of TI Echo Workstation (build 8076) installed in my system 1). It seems to work fine as a standalone/local backup program. But it is the over the network sopport that I am trying to get to.

I also now have the Management Console on 1). And I have the Agent installed on the laptop. But, when I run the MC and try to connect to the
laptop, I am stuck in the can't login hassle that has plagued so many others in this conference. I have tried all the suggestions that I can find scattered about with no success.

Isn't there some kind of Troubleshooting Guide document that you can post? This seems like such a common problem that a comprehensive systematic try the following steps in the following order type two or five pages would save everyone (especially Acronis!) a lot of hassle.

    Part III
    -------

Is all of this moot because my two "clients" (systems 2 & 3) are running XP *Home*? Nowhere in the User Guide or the Acronis website have I seen anything to make me think XP Home is not supported. But twice in the Forum I have seen suggestions to this effect. If true then I can stop spinning my wheels.

Enough for now. Can you help me or should I look elsewhere?
    Ron

You need ImageAgent on all computers you wish to manage, and that includes the one that will be co-ordinating the backups.

I quit using agents and management console!!!!.

As I previously said I simply Install the main program on each W.Stations and schedule backups to shared folders on a NAS on my wired network

....All works fine except : When you have many W.stations to backup , there seem to be a sort of network "SATURATION", so the final effect is that some W.stations need a lot of time ( two hours or more to carry out the backup) while some othere W.station make the backup in 20 minutes even if the disk is bigger in size!!!!!!!.

The problem here is that I scheduled the backups from 13 PM , when people are NOT supposed to work , but if one backup lasts more than one hours ( and it should NOT!!!) I HAVE A PROBLEM : people start working on the PC WHILE THE JOB IS STILL RUNNING!!!!!

How can avoid this kinda "CONGESTION" o_O? ( The Nas has Gigabit Connection "teamed", while the clients are 100Mbps)

    P.S.

ANYWAY: ANY PROBLEM IF ONE USES THE PC WHILE THE BACKUP IS RUNNING o_Oo_O?

    HELP!!!!!

The home versions of True Image work just fine even though the computer is used at the same time. The only impact I have seen is that the backup may take a bit longer and the user may notice a slight slowdown.

Hopefully the same applies to enterprise versions.

    Hello ronbrender,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Remote Workstation Disk Backup Software.

We are sorry for delayed response.

Please notice that a new build (8115) of Acronis True Image Echo Workstation was recently released. We recommend you to download and install the latest build of free trial version of Acronis True Image Echo Workstation. Please don't forget to update all installed components as they need to be the same build in order to interact properly.

Please also make sure that all computers are set up as described in chapter 2.2 "Security parameters" of Acronis True Image Echo Workstation User's Guide.

Regarding which components to install on which computers (with supported operating systems):

    - For computers that you want to back up, install Acronis Agent (remote management) or Acronis True Image Local version (local management);
    - Acronis Management Console can be installed on any or all computers of the network, depending on where you want to use it from;
    - Acronis Group Server can be installed on any computer of the network;
    - Acronis Backup Server is recommended to be installed on a computer dedicated for archive storage.

Before installing components we may recommend you to read the respective sections of the User's Guide to choose which components' functionality you need.

Windows XP Home does not support remote installation of components (due to "Simple file sharing" setting being force enabled). Most other operations are supported.

    Thank you.

    Hello aries58net,

We are sorry for delayed response.

We may recommend you to reduce "Network connection speed" setting for tasks that run at the same time. Please see chapter 6.3.6 "Backup performance" of Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server User's Guide for details.

As Xpilot pointed, it's safe to work normally on the computer while a backup process is running.

    Thank you.

ok , but if Ihad , say, 10 backups which run at the same time, a 100 mbps bandwidth, (the server has gigabit connection) : How much should I reduce the connection speed o_O (10 %o_O) or what ?

    TIA

Acronis will throttle the network load and not use all network / CPU / disk speed for backuping.

BTW you do no need an extra licence to use Backup Server, Group Server and Management Console. They can be on a 2003 Server to manage backups of workstations.

The backup wont be messed up if people work, it will only slow down their computers.

I think you should change the topic's title to reflect your question also :)
