A friend of mine has a computer that was used in a business he used to run. It has some sort of old Symantec AV, it says version Symantec AntiVirus version 10.0.0.359. It seems to have a perpetual license.

Is this one still good enought to use, or would he be better with something newer?

    Thanks

    Hello vincenzo,
a pretty much identical question was asked last week see here
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=212890&highlight=symantec av
if you can extract the license code you could find out if it works in the lastest symantec corporate AV
if not and the computer is now used for home use your friend can download and install one of the free av's or pay for a decent one.
wont say which ones but most are decent.

All new versions have improved heuristics and stuff, but it depends whether you are a safe surfer, or a kind of person who goes into unknown stuff. It might help if we knew what the conditions were. :cautious:

I would go for something newer. Version 10.0.0. is getting too old now.
@lodore, Symantec corporate editions doesn't have a license key for installing and updating, "only" for upgrading.

    Cheers

I think Symantec enterprise AV is up to 10.1.7 or you can use the newer suite, Symantec Endpoint Protection 11. These install without asking for a license number or key and simply update until Symantec declares an end of life for the product.
