    Hi
I wanna try the free version of AVG antivirus on my PC but I wanted to ask a question before wasting time grabbing the program (which is a hefty 47 Megs and I don't know why ?!)

Does it detect and remove rootkits ? (I don't care about permanent residence to guard against rootkits) and why it is much popular than avast ? and one last question: which one of the famous three free antivirus makers is good nowadays: Avira or avast or AVG? I feel like AVG has more popularity than Avast and Avast has more popularity than Avira but am not sure

No rootkit detection on AVG free, but you might try Gmer. Its free and beats everything else out there.

Well, from this should i understand that Avast is little better regarding this point because the free version includes a detection of rootkits?

Both Avira and Avast! free offer rootkit detection/removal. As far as which one is more popular it's a matter of opinion and considered a vs. b

If you want a popularity contest winner, go out with a cheerleader. For an AV, use some other criteria.
