I'm still disapointed the install doesn't offer to uncheck options for installation :/

It's not such a problem, since they don't take up memory anyway and nobody forces you to actually use all modules. Just turn off those that you don't need. I have all of them enabled and the combined memory usage goes between 5-6 MB in idle state to 20-25 MB when opening programs or web pages, but after the scanning is done, it drops back to under 10 MB. I'd say that's pretty light. And you can always use the Internet Security suit if you don't want the additional modules.

Is there just an AntiVirus beta I could try? I don't mind turning off the modules, but I think it's an option most AV's have, which I think BD would benefit from if they chose to do the same.

No, there is no just Antivirus beta, but there will be a final, perhaps combined with a basic firewall. I agree that it would be nice to have that option, it used to be there in version 9 I think.

There will be a version with just AV protection but with modules like "Game/Laptop Mode" and another BitDefender Internet Security with firewall and modules like "Parental Control" or "Privacy Control".

The BETA product has reached a release candidate stage and should be available somewhere around the middle of August.

I tested Bit Defender 2008 Internet Security Suite along with other anti virus software packages last year and I was impressed with what it caught. Very nice job Bit Defender. The only drawback I noticed is when I tried to uninstall the evaluation copy it wouldnt let me. All kinds of errors. I had to delete the files and cleanup registry entries before my manual un-installition was complete. I hope Bit Defender 2009 has addressed this issue. Besides the one issue I loved Bit Defender and Im looking forward to trying it again in a few months after release date.

I am still waiting for BitDefender to come out with an original feature. They seem to copy everything that Norton or other do. Online backup (Norton 360),Network map (Norton Internet Security), BD "Total" Security (McAfee), last year's UI was very similar to Norton 360.

    Come on guys. Get original.

Bitdefender 2009 beta 3 still has many glitches.
I submitted some 5 bug reports during my 1 week stint. But today, it has been almost a month since my posts.

Softwin are either very busy or too shady, since not even one of my bug posts have been replied too  !! I have heard stories of Kaspersky Support nightmares, but Bitdefender certainly seems to be the 'king of the hill' :D

FYI RC1 has been out for about 2 weeks now. Check the forums for a download link as it is not posted on the normal download site. I will say RC1 still has some IMo serious issues with bogging down and loss of internet connection, so it's not ready either.

Yeah, I posted bugs for RC1 only. Bitdefender automatically downloaded and installed the new program version... But if you notice at the beta center for BIS 2009 (after login), news/download/known issues all still show only beta 3 :D
I too saw issues with my E-Mail and Home Network connectivity. But the no-show support is truly pathetic. If its this bad during public beta, I hate to think what is in store if you actually buy the stuff...

    Zombini,

If I am not wrong Norton has only recently added a game mode. That feature was also available by other vendors. What my point is every antivirus or security suite copy some handy feature off an competitor.

    Captcumbac,

Did you first closed BitDefender? Right clicking on the red BitDefender icon near the system tray choose exit. Otherwise the BitDefender Selfprotection can cause issues.
There is an uninstall tool available to remove everything. The tool can be downloaded from here.

    vijayind,

I know some people who work for BitDefender. I will see if I can receive information about the status off certain issues. PM me witch issues you had reported. By reporting your connection issue I suppose that you also mentioned your network card. About responding your are right but they examine and read the bug reports that I almost can I assure you.

    bitdefender 2009 is released.
just look at their homepage bitdefender. com
but i didn't liked it because the development and support from bitdefender never listen to their customer how to change/improve the AV.

My mileage is completely different. During the beta, alot if stuff was changed based on the feedback we made.

I cannot believe they released 2009 now. With the issues they had with RC1(which wasn't even technically released on their beta release page), there is no way they have everything magically fixed in this version. This should have been RC2 not the release version.

I have a yr+ left on a 2yr license, but with the issues I had with RC1 and recently with 2008(it recently began randomly crashing when dealing with mail in outlook 2007), I've actually uninstalled it and am trying KIS 2009(which seems quite good so far). When i first started with 2008, it was great and rock solid for me, but as they continued to update it, it's become more and more unstable for me. I don't know what they are doing over there these days, but they need to take a HARD look at their testing procedures IMO.

Same here, Flava. They never replied to my bug posts either. Niels tried to direct some attention, but the bug reports were never even replied too.
Lets just hope they fixed the bugs and then released 2009 version. Else Softwin has only themselves to blame, when the Sh*t hits the ceiling ...:cautious:

If you still see bugs that aren't fixed in this release version you can post them here. Most of the bugs will be fixed trough automatic updates.

    vijayind,
Sorry for that but I didn't know that BitDefender would release there 2009 products so soon. I thought that they were still going to release a new release candidate version but I was wrong. I will ask that for the next bèta that there will be more response on reported bugs.

    Chuck_IV,

The latest built which is 11.0.17 for the BitDefender 2008 versions for some of the language versions caused some issues. The problems were exceptions not working,tune-up (that is only for BitDefender Total Security 200:cool:.So your issue with outlook 2007 crashing could be related to that. But because of the release of the 2009 products there will be no product updates any more for the 2008 products. I don't had this issues with my latest build which is 11.0.16.

Thanks, Niels for the personal effort.
I am very grateful for your help and I hope BitDefender also feels the same way about your assistance.

Beats me, why they did this. Is there a changelog for RC to Official Release ?
Maybe we can have a look at the changelog, to see if all the bugs have been solved and which of the critical ones may possibly remain.

    ---EDIT ---
Looks like Bitdefender 2009 has only been released in USA.
If you goto www.bitdefender.com/world/ ; It still shows 2008 as current version.

Personally, I don't have a problem with not replying to submitted bugs. Posting 5-6 thousands of standard replies like "Thank you for submitting this feedback, we'll get back to you if we need more info" would only hinder efficiency. Now, if that was done automatically, it would have been good indeed. Blame the guys who designed the submission system though, not the program development team. :p The fact is that the vast majority of bugs have been fixed. I, too, would have liked to have another public release candidate which could become the official release after it's been tested by the community, because there are still a couple of bugs left, although nothing serious.

BTW, if you go to http://www.bitdefender.com/ , it shows version 2009. However, the installers which are downloadable from the main page actually download the MSI package after you start them, and it can take a while. I didn't have the patience and went to the download site here and downloaded the whole installer a lot faster.

I decided to try the IS 2009 last night. The installation went without a hitch; but I couldn't get it to update past 7% after which it would stop and I'd get a critical error "Never Updated" message. Haven't tried today so I don't know if it was a server problem or something on my end.

No, not after each update. Only if there's a major program update.

    Hello GES/POR,

Since version 2008 the realtime protection isn't being disabled for applying signature updates which was the case for early versions. If there need to be drivers to be updated you will sometimes asked to reboot. But most of the time a reboot isn't necessary anymore. But with a first install it could be that you need to reboot a few times.

    Best regards,
    Niels

    Hello vijayind,

I will see if I can get that information. Thanks that you appreciate my efforts I wish I could helped you further.

    Best regards,
    Niels
