    Hi
I don't have enough money to buy an antivirus and also i am not interested to download illegally a paid one so i opted to install a free one "Avira" + depending on my intuition and care to prevent viruses from invading my PC
But when i downloaded the latest free version, it refuses to update saying "No valid license file available" !! so what is that ?

Don't know for sure but it is possible the wrong file was downloaded.
    Try this link:

    http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1/download_avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html

Uninstall the one you have then install the free version.
    Good luck, Dan :)

don't you still have to register and obtain a licence(of sorts) for the free version?

there's a trial,6 months free running for the paid version at moment:-

For the free version there is no registration or license to apply for.
For the trial or the 6 month, which is the premium version, license and registration are necessary.

But this is exactly the link which i got the file from o_O I clicked on the "download now" graphics found in the "Avira AntiVir Personal - FREE Antivirus" category and after doing so, i was sent to download.com to grab the file from which was having the name "antivir_workstation_winu_en_h.exe" and file size 22,311,160 bytes

I am not sure what's wrong on my part. I am really confused

I remember that in the old free-av.com website there was a link to download a free license, but now that they have upgraded the website, I don't find that link anymore...

For the Avast free remember to register. They will send you the reg key in email and is good for a year. Just save the key in case you need to reinstall again later.
