You mean like charging your credit card even when you tell them not to several times and they say they won't but do it anyway. You mean like a dozen emails to get charges reversed that never should have been initiated? I could write a book about the bs they pull- one of the most unethical companies I have seen, and I have been in the computer industry since it's inception.

 

Well i have just registered my free copy for 12 months and at no point did i have to hand over my credit card details...

We will see how it runs...

They are a re-seller of PCTools apps. As to any shenanigans on that website, it never got past Firefox+NoScript on my box. In any event, I am surfing in a sandbox and have Firefox as the ONLY app authorized to execute therein. Tra-la-la I am safe, even if I fall into a barrel of cyber - sh*t.

Why slow down surfing using Web Guard schtick? Firefox+NoScript are just as better, & zero perceptible slow-down.

They just tried to renew a subscription that had expired in May of 2007. I had to repeat the process and tell them not to charge my credit card (copy of one of the emails provided below). It appears once you are a paid subscriber, it is nearly impossible to opt out.

From what I experienced with the individual products, I can tell:

Registry Mechanic has often caused some problems for me, and it tended to delete my browser's history.

Spyware Doctor is not that bad, but it's false positives are not so rare, and I think that it can be easily replaced by other free alternatives (see my sig, ).

The antivirus is weak, one of the worst in my trying period.

The firewall got weak results in leak tests.

The only good thing for me is threatfire, the free version is fine in a behaviour detection.

 

PCTools is homebased in Australia, right? I wonder if Australia has an equivalent of the Better Business Bureau?

 

I don't think I'm going to buy anything from them EVER again.

If you want to get rid of an auto-renewal, the best way to get out of that is to use the forum, and send a moderator/administrator (Achen ?) a PM.
